Jets scheduled to host free agent wideout Chaz Schilens

Free agent wide receiver Chaz Schilens has a connection with the Jets. Their new receivers coach, Sanjay Lal, was Schilens’ position coach for three years in Oakland.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that Schilens is scheduled to visit the Jets. The 49ers have also shown some interest in the talented, but injury-prone receiver.

Schilens was a favorite of late Raiders owner Al Davis because he’s big and runs a good forty time.

But Schilens has transitioned that potential into just 72 receptions across four seasons. He has seven career touchdowns.

The Jets can offer an opportunity for significant playing time, however. They have a hole at the wideout position opposite Santonio Holmes. On talent alone, Schilens is capable of filling the void.
