Jerel Worthy impresses at Michigan State Pro Day

While most of the NFL world was focused on free agency, Michigan State had its Pro Day on Wednesday, and it was an opportunity for defensive tackle Jerel Worthy to shine.

Worthy weighed in at 303 pounds, did 28 repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench press and ran a 5.05-second 40-yard dash. Many mock drafts have had Worthy going at No. 25 overall to the Broncos or No. 29 overall to the Ravens, but NFL Network’s Mike Mayock said after watching Worthy in person that he suspects Worthy could go higher than that.

“There’s no way with his body type and his skill set he gets past the first 20 or 25 picks in the first round,” Mayock said. “His tape is good enough that he’s going to be a first-round pick.”

Worthy said after the workout that he had been nervous two weeks ago at the Scouting Combine and disappointed in his own performance, and that he thinks what he did at the Michigan State practice facility on Wednesday was more indicative of what kind of football player he is.

“I probably would give myself an A, but you always want an A-plus, so I’m going to continue to work,” Worthy told the Detroit News. “It was a more comfortable atmosphere than it was in Indy. I think I had better success than I had in Indy. I showed the coaches I stayed in shape and I’ve still got it.”

Six weeks from today he’ll get drafted in the first round.

  1. From what I heard yesterday on NFLN, Cousins impressed also especially since he scripted and conducted his whole workout himself instead of having coaches etc run it.

  2. If he added a hyphen to his 1st name (Jer-el) and got a Superman “S” tattoo that would be too awesome for words.

No DT worth a spit will get past the Broncos at 25. Book it.

  4. No doubt THCnote.

My question is: Is Jerrel “Worthy” of the Packers trading up, to get him? The player I have my heart set on, probably won’y be there at 28 either so I guess im in favor of trading up this year.

Knowing Ted Thompson though, im sure he will sit tight at 28 and see what falls to him.

Just please avoid Devon Still like the plague, I want nothing to do with that player.
