Peyton Hillis thinks Chiefs’ backfield is a force to be reckoned with

Peyton Hillis has arrived in Kansas City, and he has big plans for what the Chiefs’ running game can do.

“I’m excited about being here,” Hillis said. “With Jamaal Charles and Dexter McCluster in the backfield, I think we’ll have a huge backfield that can do some really great things.”

Last season Thomas Jones and Jackie Battle got the bulk of the carries in Kansas City, with Jones leading the team with 153 rushing attempts and Battle having 149. Both players are leaving this year, and the Chiefs are hopeful that a 1-2 punch of Charles and Hillis, with McCluster as a third-down back, will give them one of the best backfields in football.

One of the reasons Hillis is so confident he can return to form in Kansas City is that Brian Daboll is the offensive coordinator, just as he was in Cleveland in 2010 when Hillis had his breakout season.

“He believed in me and believed what I could do,” Hillis said of Daboll. “What he does works. I’m very excited about the opportunity to be a Chief.”

If Hillis looks like he did in 2010 and Charles looks like he did in 2010, every Kansas City fan should be excited, too.
