Raiders to host free agent cornerback Ronald Bartell

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Oakland Raiders have scheduled a free agent visit with cornerback Ronald Bartell, formerly of the Rams.

Bartell will arrive at club headquarters tonight.

Key for Bartell will be his ability to pass a physical. He suffered two fractures in his neck early last season and missed the rest of the year.

Bartell was still playing at a high level before the injury, and is only 30 years old. He’d immediately become the most experienced member of Oakland’s cornerback corps.

  1. We can do better then this can’t we? No offense but two fractures to the neck? And now it’s all about if he can pass a physical? What about signing a player without a physical cap first then if not look in the bottom of the barrel. Last thing we need is another injury prone dollar bill sitting on IR….

  2. I think we are so broke we can’t afford to shop around. I believe bargain basement players will be us for a while. All those hefty over-priced and ballon contracts results in this. I’m all for it so we might get things right again. So many other players but no way we can afford them right now.

  3. Allen already said they weren’t going to do much in free agency. Bringing in expensive FAs in the spring gets the fans excited, but I don’t think we will see much of that in Oakland for the foreseeable future.

  4. Well, our defense can’t get more overpaid or worse. This guy sure as heck can’t hurt.

  5. I agree to a point that he cant hurt, but do we really need another guy that cant help too??? Thats our defense in an entirety at the moment!!! Cut Wimbley and get some breathing room and fill our Dback spots with some healthy talent and some game!!! Thats all im saying is we need forward movement cuz lateral movement is just that, another 8-8 season at best…….

You have no money, no draft picks and a new staff.

    You won’t sniff .500

  7. I 100% agree with what has been done so far. I think people are to quick to judge how our season ended up last year with all of the injuries. I know it’s an IF, but if we didn’t get as injured as we did there is no question we would have finished with at least 11 wins. Our problem wasn’t what happened on the field but rather off. Carson Palmer will have one of the biggest years of any quarterback ever next year and although our defense wasn’t one of the best or even middle of the pack, they will get better with young talent and that spells great things for us.

  8. I agree 100% as well. Although I do believe alot of the problems started at the top and all **** runs down hill. Players coaches and im willing tom bet the ball boy was pissed off in some way too. I dont necessarily agree that we needed to scramble everything up as much but i just didn’t think the talent we had was being utilized properly. But now if there is anyone who knows anything about how to play foot ball or even foot ball period….Its Big RM!!!! I’m so fired up about what he has done i cant wait for pre season even!!!
