After losing out on Nelson, Jets look to Atogwe

Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie caused a bit of a Twitter stir Sunday when he tweeted he’s “moving to FS,” or free safety. But the Jets’ interest in another free safety suggests Cromartie may not have to change positions.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets have shown interest in free agent O.J. Atogwe, who was released last week by the Redskins. While no visit has been scheduled, that may be a forthcoming step after the Jets lost out on Reggie Nelson to the Bengals Sunday evening.

Atogwe has been a free safety throughout his seven-year NFL career. The Jets also hosted free agent LaRon Landry for a visit over the weekend, but Landry is more of a strong safety.

Atogwe will be meeting with the Lions early this week.

  1. This is sad. I feel as a Dolphins Fan I should crap on the Jets, but only 2 comments aftervan hour proves that people (especially AFCEast foes) love to comment on the Fins lack of success in FA out of jealousy, but the Jets are just outright irrelevant!

  2. Does anyone else finds it ridiculous how obsessed this site is with the Jets? At least six teams are interested in Otogwe, but they add only the Jets in the headline because the Jets brings clicks (from haters and Jet fans).
I understand that Rex attracts a lot of the attention they get, but I long said that the Jets hype is more media hype than anything. Would this put a post that say the Panthers were interested in a player? No.

Sites like this report every single thing about the Jegs only to then talk about them being attention seekers and over hyped.

  3. jetfan28,

Actually it is mostly just this writer. Posted a double story about Jennings staying with the Bengals 2mins after the MDS one. The second one being a take from the Jets being the headliner in the Jennings news, whereas the story MDS did is just about Jennings.

  4. How bad is it for the Jets right now?

Nelson would rather stay with a Bengals team that’s hemorrhaging free agents than join that circus in NY.

  5. triple chin been type quiet so far huh fat bastard has his mouth full of crow and toes and feet but really doe they are not doin nothing thatsm scares anyone especially marsha brady or big bum rottenrazenbagger. so tell toe jam and earl to start predicting already

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, I rest my case.

  7. Nelson didnt sign with the Jets because of money. He said himself that he loved his visit and he was impressed with the organization. On another note of course PFT is going to post stories where they think its going to generate the most hits to their site. The Jets benefit from being in one of the biggest media markets in the world so I don’t understand why people are suprised that they make headlines.

sadly the computer does not have a sarcasm font, but if you really think NFL fans are “jealous” then you must think Tom Brady is jealous of your wife
