Peyton Manning may take his sweet old time about making a decision, but the NFL’s second-best free agent quarterback plans to sign soon.

Matt Flynn has visited both the Seahawks and the Dolphins, and his dad told Barry Jackson of McClatchy Newspapers that a decision is coming within the next couple days.

The news that free agent quarterback Alex Smith is also visiting the Dolphins could complicate things, but Alvin Flynn said his son is thrilled about the possibility of being reunited with his offensive coordinator in Green Bay, Joe Philbin, who is now the head coach of the Dolphins.

“He’s excited to be down there,” Alvin Flynn said. “He is very fond of Joe Philbin. He has warm feelings for him.”

Then again, Matt Flynn also likes the coaching staff in Seattle and could end up there.

“He likes Pete Carroll,” Alvin Flynn said. “They hit it off well.”

Alvin Flynn hinted, however, that the opportunity to keep playing in Philbin’s offense, where Matt Flynn looked good in limited action with the Packers, could tip the balance in favor of signing with the Dolphins.

Said Flynn’s dad, “Matt could run that offense in his sleep.”
