Ryan Clark says “no one” wants to join the Dolphins

Getty Images

So why are the Dolphins having a hard time luring free agents to South Beach?  Steelers safety Ryan Clark has a theory.

After Clark congratulated quarterback Matt Flynn on joining the Seahawks via Twitter, one of Clark’s followers writes that “NO ONE wants to go to the Dolphins!”  Clark responds by saying, “No one!  To believe I almost went there but it was easy decision not to.”

Clark was referring to his decision in 2010 to stay with the Steelers in lieu of joining the Dolphins.

So what’s the issue?  Clark later says, “It’s my honest opinion. Not a good guy making decisions.”

Here’s referring, presumably, to G.M. Jeff Ireland.

Clark didn’t specifically say whether other players share his opinion, but it’s implied in the “No one!” tweet.

If it’s true, the Dolphins need to find a way to fix the situation.  If it’s not true, the Dolphins need to find a way to reverse a false perception.

  1. look on the bright side even IF that were true, it’s still not as bad as having Matt Millen running the show…

  2. This must go deeper than one person. Look at Ross, he is a huge part of the disfunction in Miami.

Parcells bailed out and left a mess. Was it due to ownership?, Ireland? Both?

What is the root of the disfunction in Miami? Are Ross and Ireland on one page and the rest of the world on another? I can’t help but think it all starts with Ross but I would really like Parcells or someone who really knows to tell us. What is the deal in Miami?

  3. ok, so why have they signed free agents this off season, apparently some players want to go there…just because a team wants a player, doesn’t mean the player wants the team…they are free agents…nothing says they have to go to a certain team

  4. They’ve gotten some big name free agents not too long ago (Bush, Joey Porter). I think the way they treated Sparno (deserved or not) is prossibly in play, seeing as he is supposedly such a players coach.

  5. So the guy who visited the Dolphins purely to gain leverage for his deal to stay in Pitt has an issue with Ireland who met Clark’s demands.

    That is rich.

  6. That Idiot Ross needs to hire great football people and let them alone to build a winner. It’s sad the shape of the organization now. When Joe Robbie owned them they were the same caliber as the Steelers and Cowboys.

  7. They’ll get the FA QB signing of the century if Manning signs in SF. Just ask some of them… the sudden support for Alex Smith makes me feel as if I’m in the twilight zone

  8. Pretty dissapointed the Fins didnt lock up Flynn but well see if hes worth the contract he got, jus hope this isnt another situation like the Drew Breew deal, not saying Fynn is as good Brees but he could pan out to be like a Hasselback. Dam Ireland!

  9. Congratulations Ryan you just insulted Reggie Bush, Jake Long, Karlos Dansby, Devone Bess, and all of the other Dolphin players.

In this case the saying “Never argue with an idiot, he will drive you down to his level and beat you with experience” applies

  10. As a dolphins fan, we already know this. Why do you think there was a plane flying over the stadium on our last game this year saying, “Mr.Ross, Save our Dolphins, Fire Ireland”.

  11. Ryan Clark needs to talk less and let his play do the talking.
Though as a Ravens fan, I’m fine with him keeping up the current trend.

  12. Not until it your last resort!!! I’m sure some guys would be there in a heartbeat. Any Names???

  13. Ryan Clark you’re a moron, and a very ignorant human being… You used the Fins to increase your value to negotiate your contract with Pittsburgh… you looked bad and now you blame the Dolphins organization for that? Dude, you should be sending them flowers for helping you get more money, and staying in Pittsburgh.

By the way, back then you were being recruited by Bill Parcells, and he was the one making the shots… So now, you’re calling the Big Tuna “Not a good guy..”?

  14. This is the owners fault and the Ireland’s fault for being his pawn. When Stephen Ross decided to speak to Harbaugh last year DESPITE still having a head coach under contract, he showed he has no loyalty and can’t be trusted. When Ireland took that plane ride with Ross, he showed he is a gutless coward who will do anything to keep his job. Ever since then, no one has wanted anything to do with the Miami Dolphins. How you can play for an owner and G.M. who you can’t trust and who will betray you in the lowest of low ways??

  15. Suddenly Buffalo could be more attractive for its operations over sunny warm and even more hopeless Miami? I guess it isn’t only about money. I don’t get it. Football players don’t want just a warm climate year round, good looking girls and zero income tax? Clark would rather play in cold Pitt than Miami? I suppose Miami better stop investing in landscapers and sun chairs or they will start renting tarps from Jacksonville.

  16. Does this mean Charlie Batch, Byron Leftwich and Dennis Dixon are NOT carpooling to Miami at this moment?

  17. Ireland may have zero people that like him, but at least he knows not to overpay for free agents like Flynn, Clark, and others.

Most of these crybabies don’t want to play for Miami is because they won’t give them a ridiculous contract like Flynn got.

Ireland sucks as a communicator but he knows value and when to overpay (Dansby) and when not to (Clark and Flynn)

  18. It’s the $. Always the $.

This is strickly business and when the facts come out in the next day or so, it will be shown that Hawks gave a better offer to Flynn. Hawks are a very good organization but the $ offered is the reason for the signing.

If they offer more $ and the Dolphins will have players lined up at the gate. Or; wait until the draft and save $!

    Go Hawks!

  19. Thank you, Ryan Clark, for giving us info the Miami media either can’t uncover or chooses to hide. The more truth that becomes public on the people who are destroying our once-proud franchise, the more pressure there will be for Ross to run the Dolphins properly, or sell.

  20. When Shula was around, we only had 2 losing seasons in 3 decades. We had a great owner, solid front office, and our coaches. Of course Griese and Marino.
Now i truly believe Ross does want to win but has no clue how to go about it. Biggest mistake: keeping Ireland instead of firing him and hiring a SOLID football person.

  21. Finally someone is saying this. Maybe this will get something changed. Parcells put the phins back decades with his antiquated philosphy and a horrible gm. And Ross as an owner is a joke. He would rather get celebrity owners than players for a good team. It is very sad to be a Dolphins fan right now. If they are banking on Tannehill sliding to 8 they are kidding themselves.

  22. Jeff Ireland, you have embarrassed yourself, the organization, and your boss, Mr. Ross. Resign at once and return the money you stole as salary. That is all.

  23. Management created a bad dysfunctional atmosphere, it starts with the owner. Still, the owner is willing to spend the money on players he likes, it is always about the money.

I find Clark’s comments hard to believe just because of how many players the Dolphins have retained…..Soliai, Slaton, and a couple of other guys they were able to retain. They could have easily left, but they stayed.

  24. Didn’t Jeff Ireland ask Dez Bryant if his mother was a prostitute? This guy seems like a complete loser as a GM after botching every chance to get Miami a real QB. He’ll be gone sometime these next 2 seasons, almost a lock at this point.

  25. Ross and Ireland needs to go! But Ross realistically is going no where. What needs to happen is for Ross to clean house, then proceed to become a silent owner.

Ross needs to take himself out of all related football decisions when it comes to building a roster. Ireland has made some good and some bad decision’s in the past. But the fact is the Dolphins are an organization at present with no clear identity and don’t seem to know what stage of development their roster is in! And there seems to be no plan to resolve this!

Ireland clearly is not a likable person, and has a negative perception league wide, this is an irrevocable fault and the situation is too far gone for him to repair. He must go!

Literally within a week, this organization has gone from one who many believed to be on the verge of a playoff berth with the addition of a reliable QB, to an organization that maybe fighting to crack .500

Someone must be held accountable, and that someone is Ireland.

  26. “jmak79 says: What, doesn’t every gm test a player by asking if their mom liked being a prostitute?”

That’s not even close to being accurate and you should be sued for libel.

Ireland asked Bryant what his dad did. Bryant said, “He’s a pimp.” Ireland asked what his mom did, and Bryant said, “She works for my dad.”

A confused Ireland–and be honest, how would you react to those answers–asked, “Your mom’s a prostitute?” It was an unfortunate but understandable reaction.

He did NOT ask if she LIKES being a prostitute.

  27. I would have to agree Jeff fisher who isnt that good wanted nothin to do with them, matt flynn wanted nothin to do with them even tho “he could run that offence in his sleep”

As a bills fan i hope they draft a QB so he can hold out and demand a trade LMAO, NOONE is gonna want to play QB in the AFC EAST

    # noone havin more sacks than mario williams since 2007
    # super mario having marcell dareus and kyle williams and either a first or second round pick on the same D-line

    # miami dolfins offensive line getting CRUSHED by buffalos D line and all QBs in NFL know it! LMAO

  28. DON’T YOU GET IT?

It’s SOLIDARITY with a player who was badly wronged by Jeff Ireland. There’s a blacklist against that fool because of what he said to Dez Bryant. It was straight racist, and the players took notice. Clark was stupid for admitting it, but it’s known league-wide… Ireland is a punk.

(And this comes from the most loyal Coyboys-hating, Dez Bryant-hating 49ers Faithful in the world… Ireland cooked his goose…)

  29. the Dolphins are a horrible destination for any free agent. Terrible fanbase (and you thought LA was bad??) crappy stadium, cheap owner, idiotic management and zero chance of winning.

  30. “If it’s true, the Dolphins need to find a way to fix the situation. If it’s not true, the Dolphins need to find a way to reverse a false perception.”

Ryan Clark is a moron. His perception is irrelevant.

  31. Win something Bill’s fan, then talk smack, your organization is nothing but a bunch of “almosts.”

Whats with all these “never done a damned thing” franchises’ fans piping up all the time? Know your place!

  32. PFT ran this story just to make the vikequeef toads feel better because only the criminally insane want to play in MN.

  33. Whenever a team is vilified by the media and fans of both the team and other teams they have two options. come out all guns blazing and prove every mofo wrong, or believe the hype and lay down and die. I hope its the former otherwise its going to be a long season. Again.

  34. Matt flynn wanted to. He gave them every opportunity to get a deal done but then they disrespected him with a lowball offer. For what Seattle paid for him, I think its worth the risk. He already knows Miami’s system but they still chose the cheap route and may have squandered their only long term solution at qb since Marino. I wouldn’t want to go to Miami either.

  35. Ryan Clark…one hell of a football player…one hell of a comedian! Its funny cuz its true, who wants to play for dolphins when either the bills or patriots will win the division year-in and year-out for years to come!

  36. The Dolphins would be better off with Carl Peterson….I can’t believe I’m actually saying that, being that I am a Chiefs fan.

  37. @ dblockdedicated

Maybe that’s true, but look how much success the Dolphins have had in recent years. One playoff appearance in ten years or something (I don’t know the exact number).

Sometimes you need to take chances on players.

  38. When you have two rings on your fingers you’ve probably earned the right to share your personal observations.

By most accounts, Ireland’s character is questionable at best. His results don’t lie.

  39. He did NOT ask if she LIKES being a prostitute.

    ———————

He did however ask how much she charged and whether Bryant’s dad could hook them up.

  40. Could be some favorable odds leaning towards the Dolphins this year. Public sentiment seems to be at an all time low. Let’s all quit whining like little girls and figure out how to cash in at Caesar’s Palace in week 1. Let’s go, girls!!!

  41. 1grub is mad. Thing is, Clark is a hard-hitting S.O.B. Too bad the pansy-league image Goodell is trying to paint in fans’ heads is actually working.

  42. There are 7 or 8 teams worse than us…but because we went after one of the best qbs of all time, didn’t overpay for a guy with 2 starts and didn’t give a mediocre coach all of the power?? I don’t quite understand..write a story and bash the cardinals about them losing out on peyton..hell at least we tried!! Wth are the browns doing? Oh right..we are the only NFL whipping boy.especially this site

  43. So what has Philbin done or said since leaving GB that would make us think he was ever confident with Flinn as his quarterback in Miami? It could be the the Dolphins passed on him because they couldn’t sign him for what he’s really worth.

  44. Well the Ireland probing of Dez Bryant’s Mom for possible prostitution has resonated through out the NFL. Jeff Ireland seems like a guy who may have been misguided by his former boss Bill Parcells into thinking he was a policeman.

  45. We lost Marshall….that’s all and the qb that had us to an 0-7 start.you have a full draft and at the very least a decent qb in Moore,a much easier schedule, but media makes it all look so much worse than it is…I mean we were practically 0-16 b4 Jeff came here and he has built a decent team, but no one sees the growth of the team, only the bad.Ijust hope we can shut up all these losers and shady fans with winning some games..go dolphins

  46. When Manning doesn’t even want to meet with the owner on his LeBron tour, that says a lot about the organization.

  47. What are you guys talking about ridiculous contract for Flynn? the average is $6 mil per year. A QB starting salary is $10 mil per year. Kolb makes more in the first eight months than Flynn makes in 3 years.

The only way Flynn makes a lot of money is if he hits all his incentives. And if he does hit those incentives, that means he is playing at a lights-out level and would be a bargain for SEA.

  48. They should have gone after Flynn more aggressively.. He and Philbin are a natural fit after all their years in Green Bay.

Bet Alex Smith is saying the same thing to himself right now.

  50. This site and Adam Scheinhole pretty much make a sport out of Finbashing. They will rise – and it will be nice to read for a change.

  51. To be fair to Ryan Clark one of his followers tweeted that no one wants to go to Miami and he agreed with that follower by saying “no one. “

  52. That idiot should keep his mouth shut. He’s lucky the steelers don’t trade his ass to Denver.

  53. dumbasdirt says: Mar 18, 2012 10:48 PM

Congratulations Ryan you just insulted Reggie Bush, Jake Long, Karlos Dansby, Devone Bess, and all of the other Dolphin players.

Ryan Clark’s comments were not classy, but they undeniably have a ring of truth. Jake Long had no choice about coming to Miami, he was drafted and signed to a contract. Reggie Bush was traded by the Saints to the dolphins, he had no choice in the matter either. Karlos Dansby is the Dolphins only notable free agency signing in recent history. Though Paul Soliai and Davone Bess are both good players who signed contracts with the team, they were both with Miami the year before and were merely re-upping with the Dolphins. They clearly already felt at home (literally and figuratively) in Miami.

If you examine the Dolphins acquisitions from other teams this season they are no-names at best and bums at worst. Steve Slaton was pretty cool in college, but doesn’t have much a future in the NFL. He’s very similar to Reggie Bush, except worse, and the Dolphins already have one Reggie Bush. Richard Marshall, CB, played for Arizona last year, and was shredded by Rex Grossman in week 2. Rex F. Grossman. The Dolphins actually pulled off a major coup in signing Artis Hicks, who had a very tempting offer from his couch and a bag of Doritos. Hicks is a backup’s backup, and he’s not even good at that. If the Dolphins hadn’t signed him, he’d be filling out an application at Home Depot this week.

I think even the most die-hard Dolphins fan would have trouble arguing that if this the talent you’re snatching up from other teams, Miami has an issue. When a team’s owner is very public about acquiring at least one of two players in the offseason (Griffin, Manning and/or Flynn) and fails to acquire a single one, it is not only embarrassing for the team’s image but indicative of major problems in the front office.

I think those are the sentiments Clark was trying to convey in his tweet, but its hard to be well-spoken in 64 characters or less.

  54. So what he’s saying is No One wants to “take their talents to South Beach”? I thought everyone wanted to be a Miamiite.

  55. What an absurd comment by Ryan Clark when he used the Fins to get a better deal with Pittsburgh a few years ago.. How low can you get to make such innacurate comments when the Fins aid your contract negotiations. Instead of making such comments, you should be sending them roses and treating Big Tuna for helping you. OOh, you forgot that part too… Big Tuna was the one that recruited you back then, not Ireland.. LMAO!!

Thank God you don’t wear a Dolphins uniform…

  56. As a dolphin fan, i am digusted by this team and its management for the last 15 years. It has become embarssing by all the mistakes and failures they have hade. And from all the dumb a$$es we have had like, Rick Speilman, Nick Saban etc…Bill Parcells, Jeff Ireland are the worst and have done the most damage ever to this once proud franchise. I will always be a fin fan but I will not spend a dime on watching this team play and its sad cuz im not alone, this team has lost more than 30 THOUSAND season ticket holders the last two years and counting.

  57. Miami didn’t overpay for him too. Flynn is a backup Qb at best, not a franchise type. We already have Matt Moore.

  58. Some of you are amazing. Supposedly, Ireland asked Sex Bryant if his mom was a hooker. Not sure where the story ever cane from. Dez Bryant? If true, questions like that don’t just come out of thin air. All indications point to Bryant being a knucklehead. Even a more like Deon Sanders has said he’s beyond help.

It seems Ireland was proven correct there. He also git 2 #3s for another moron like Marshall.

They knew everything about Flynn so it looks like they never viewed him like a serious option worth millions.

  59. Isn’t this coming from the DB who was chasing Demaryius Thomas down the field to lose to Denver in the playoffs?? Who cares what this guy thinks. Ignorant babble!

  60. Well Ryan Clark has a point, your coach can’t sign a QB he has worked with and has a relationship with and the you had Eric Winston sign with the Chiefs and his brother is on the staff . I am not sure who is at fault but Winston and Flynn should have never left that building.

  61. It’s sadly true.

But other than the GM asking about moms soliciting prostitution, the owner is crazy and Carl Peterson is inept and has been overextended into football front offices since the Chiefs went 7-9 in 2000.

    I feel for Joe Philbin.

  62. Is he wrong? Everyone the dolphins have set out to get this offseason has gone elsewhere. They went from being a front runner for Peyton manning to thinking about Alex smith. Talk about wanting a steak and getting stale meatloaf

  63. @FOOTBALLFAN80

THE DOLPHINS PUT ONE WINNING SEASON TOGETHER IN WHAT 10 YEARS AND IT WAS A FLUKE!!!!!!!! BRADY TORE HIS ACL. Dnt hate on us because we were able to get the BEST PASS RUSHER IN THE LEAUGE to come to buffalo and ur havin a hard time with Alex Smith. Ur jst mad because a popular player is right and ur jst bein a sour fan about it lol.

    # MIAMI DOLPHINS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! “CNT WAIT” till THIS SEASON STARTS I REALLY “CNT WAIT”
    # BUFFALO WINNING AFC EAST

  64. I like the attempts I Ireland has made, but overall he and The Fins need to part ways now. Then Ross needs to stay out of player/staff operations outside the initial hiring.
Yo Mike! Can I have a job?

You can always be counted on to post inane nonsense; at least you’re consistent and don’t disappoint.

  67. Miami needs a new owner – one with the positive attributes of Joe Robbie – and new office.

I don’t blame Ireland but I do think he was not quite ready for a GM role when Parcels brought him to Miami. But now he’s got about four years under his belt as GM and IMO, to blame him & replace him is not going to be positive for the Dolphins at this time.

  68. Once again, as I have posted multiple times, to quote Peyton Manning “It is a good place to vacation but no one wants to play there” The weather is nice and a good Basketball team and baseball team but football? Uh not so much too bad so sad glad I am not a fan of that team. Moving on

  69. How many free agents came to The Pitts so far this offseason?, can’t blame em, who wants their wifes or girlfriends in the same zip code with that Ruthlesburgler character?

  70. @jwreck – Very well said. This problem starts at the meddling owner level and continues at the ignorant GM level. Neither have any business being in charge of this team at this point. Ross should stay out of the personnel decisions and Ireland just needs move on. Flynn chose $6 mil per season and the suicide capital of the US over the beautiful beaches of MIA and playing for those two even if he was comfortable with Philbin as the head coach.

  71. It’s true but won’t end when he’s finally mercifully fired, probably during this season (and replaced with an even bigger joke, Karl Peterson), because the buffoon, Stephen Ross, still owns the team.

When you see Stephen Ross or hear him speak, his appearance just screams “loser” and “moron.”

Hope rolling your buddy, Sparano, under the bus was worth it to stay a part of this train wreck, Jeff. Maybe he can work on those “prostitute” questions because the Dolphins surely wouldn’t need anybody like Dez Bryant on their team in light of them trading for Brandon Marshall instead, then trading him for less than what they gave up to get him, lol.

Pray for 0-16 Dolphin fans so that Ross will sell your team and the whole thing gets cleaned out, sort of how it was supposed to work after the Cam Cameron disaster. It’s your only hope.

    Sincerely,
The rest of the AFC East
    —————————————————–

THAT was epic! Great comment and made me laugh out loud, a rarity. Hate the AFC east but I could hear them all saying this.

  73. Most of you are exactly right…Ross is disloyal and stupid, Ireland has the Dez thing and actually wanted to stick with Henne…He could have gotten Mallet last year in the 3rd freakin round and passed..Just didn’t make any effort to get us a QB. Now suddenly Matt Moore looks better than anyone in years, (Penny was too fragile to be considered that good) And Moores being treated like dogfood. These A-holes don’t know ‘who’ to appreciate or ‘when’ to appreciate them. If I were Matt I’d feel like leaving about now. I wouldn’t want to play for a team that doesn’t appreciate me. I’m not saying to start Moore for sure next year, but give the dude some public props miami….He got Marshall a ticket to the probowl where Marshall played outstanding. All Marshall didn’t say a freakin thing about Matt getting him there….He just said basically “I can do this every week if Miami gets me a good QB” What a d*ck

  74. >> “Here’s referring, presumably, to G.M. Jeff Ireland.”

There was no need to presume. Read the first tweet more closely, which you didn’t quote in it’s entirety.

The last thing Clark wrote in the tweet (before the retweet section) was “GM”. He referred to Ireland directly, in the very brief way necessitated by fitting a comment and a retweet in 140 characters.

  75. Dolphin fans want to dismiss Clark but explain why Manning paid more attention to the Cardinals than the Dolphins. That’s how far the Phins have fallen.

They used to be a top AFC team. Not winning rings but always pretty good and usually a playoff team. Now they’re more like the Bengals.

  76. Well lets see…..

Karlos Dansby is the Dolphins only notable free agency signing in recent history that came from another team and wasnt resigned or drafted by Miami….

For whatever the reasons were, the upper managments decision to handle a few of the former players that were lifers, the interview incident, draft pick blunders and coaches…not to mention the fact that they couldnt nail a big name coach they were trying desperately to get ( Cowher, Harbough, Fisher to name a few and as well as the F/A that were big names that wouldnt sign a deal just makes the front office look bad. I dont know enough about Ireland and Ross to say as to why they cant seem to land who they want but it does seem that players sure dont seem like after they do there to meet owners and such that they arent too impressed and sign elsewher.

  77. Jeff Ireland is only part of the problem, Stephen Ross is a meddling Jerry Jones type of owner. Only problem is that he knows literally nothing about how to run a football organization. Even if it is Jeff Ireland’s fault Stephen Ross can remedy that situation at any time. It’s like the Lions and Matt Millen, who’s at fault more the guy who comes from a broadcasting background and knows nothing about scouting, or the morons who hired him and gave him carte blanche?

  78. I can see why Manning did not choose Miami, I can see just perhaps Miami did not view Flynn as a starter (No one really knows what went down). What I can’t see is why they haven’t sign any FA especially with no one to play RT, RG or WR.

Ross wants fans to buy tickets, well give us a reason to buy tickets….SMH

  79. Ross is clearly the worst owner in pro sports. I find it hard to believe he doesn’t realize Ireland has no clue how to run a football team. I hope he enjoys his empty stadium next year.

  80. Let’s also not forget that Miami is a terrible sports city. There are too many other distractions and nice weather. Did You see the Heat game last night? So many empty seats on what I assume was a nice Sunday evening. Most other place would have filled the stadium for a winning team.

  81. Be careful, Mr. Clark. Now, the commish will probably suspend you 8 games, Steelers will be fined $25 million in cap space, and lose their 1st round draft picks for the next 4 years.

  82. Players follow the $. If they can make a lot more in Miami, then that is where they are going.

  83. Well all I know is if you want to be in the running for a HoF QB, you don’t trade the best Receiver on your Roster. Even Peyton Manning needs Receivers.

Brandon Marshall is probably glad he’s a Bear now. And I hate Duh Bears.

  84. lilrob10201 says: Mar 18, 2012 10:40 PM

There are players on the Dolphins roster for a reason

    ——————————

A job with the Dolphins in the NFL, is better than NO JOB.

  85. He speaks the truth….Any team owned by Mark Anthony, I want nothing to do with. It all starts with good ownership…

    HAIL

  86. I do not believe that for one minute. Just because a player chooses another team is no reflection on management. Matt Flynn visited the Fins and chose the better offer. Miami played their hand wrong. Fisher chose a better option. A team with a QB. Harbaugh wanted to remain in California. I do not see that as an indictment on the Dolphins franchise. The media is just taking something small and making it larger than it is.

  87. Ryan Clarke needs to mind his own business. Maybe the Dolphins didn’t want him for a reason.
Brandon Marshall had done his time in Miami. With all his problems enough is enough. Let Chicago have his problems now, with the dropped balls, and the law suits. He’s crackers.
The Dolphins have plenty of players who love to play here, just ask them Ryan Clarke. Shut your Twitter up.

  88. Philbin knows Flynn better than anyone else in the NFL. The Dolphins didn’t push hard for Flynn. Hmmmmmm…I wonder why? lol…Seattle just signed themselves a 2nd string QB for $26 million. Clark is an idiot. Even most Steelers fans will tell you that.

And what does “Here’s referring, presumably, to G.M. Jeff Ireland.”?

  89. Ryan Clarke’s comments are irrevelant. THe bottome line is whether this storied franchise has the moxy to overcome the obstacles that we are facing. Thers is a reason we didn’t lock down Matt Flynn…If anyone knows morew about Matt Flynn than Joe Philbin please raise yor hand, commentators included. If we sign Alex Smith, who was once a sought after 1st rounder, that is not a bad thing. He struggled in his early career but look at what he had to work with. It was only when Harbaugh got there that he was able to use his god-gifted talent. Be patient and let Joe Philbin and Mike Sherman coach this team. We didn’t need Peyton Manning or Matt Flynn to make us better. We need to let our coaches make us better for the long-term.

  90. I love the Bills fans coming out of the woodwork, “Dolphins suck, Bills rule!”. Seriously, you guys completely overpay for an injured Mario Williams and think you’ve somehow transformed your franchise from losers into winners. What a joke.

  91. “Why would any QB want to play in Miami? Bess, Hartline, Fasano ….. really? Plus playing NE and the Jets twice a year? No thanks.”

I love how these Jets’ fans like to lump themselves in with New England. Why would anyone fear playing against the Jets? Talk about a team going down the tubes…

  92. What Ryan Clark has said is what many of us have known for a while.

Hey Miami fans, whose your QB this year? This team is going all the way to the Super Bowl. Miami fans are such tools.

They’ve gotten some big name free agents not too long ago (Bush, Joey Porter). I think the way they treated Sparno (deserved or not) is prossibly in play, seeing as he is supposedly such a players coach.
    _____________________________
To begin with, Bush was technically a trade, not a FA…although he did have to agree to rework his contract to make the deal go through. Either way, before discussing this, we all need to understand that there are basically two kinds of FAs. The first is thrilled to get an offer, as it means that they won’t have to bust their behinds trying to make a team. The other FAs are those who are being targeted by multiple teams. Any team can get as many of the first group of FAs as they want, if for no other reason than there are more players than there are roster spots. The second group of FAs is where Clark’s comments come into play. These FAs have options, and are free to sign with whatever team presents the best option for them. When Clark says that no one wants to play for the Dolphins, what he’s really saying is that the Dolphins are considered a less-than-ideal franchise to play for. A team can be considered a less than ideal franchise for any number of reasons, ranging from the quality of the team’s roster to the way the front office acts. Having said that, they still have a chance at most of the second group of FAs. The problem is, if a team has a bad reputation, they have to be willing to noticeably outbid the other interested teams. Think of it as a bad rep tax. Finally, there’s an upper echelon of the second group of FAs. This consists of players who have already made a ton of money, and will simply refuse to play for a team they view as less than ideal. So, to sum things up, is it true that no one wants to play for the Dolphins? No, but it is true that the higher tier FAs are a lot harder for a team like the Dolphins to sign, and if they do manage to sign them they’re going to have to pay more to get them.

Isn’t this coming from the DB who was chasing Demaryius Thomas down the field to lose to Denver in the playoffs?? Who cares what this guy thinks. Ignorant babble!

Ummm….no, actually. Ryan Clark didn’t make the trip to Denver because of health reasons and we missed him terribly! Talk about your ignorant babble….

  95. Got to be some truth to his story. Manning turned them down flat and early. It wasn’t a long time thinking decision on his or Flynn’s part.
For Flynn’s sake I think he went to Miami to turn them down. They went after Manning and other before turning to Flynn as the also ran.
A lot of other players are turning there nose up as well so something is not right with the team.
One of the issues is the team is not withing grasps of superbowl contention with a weak supporting casts and several years from being competitive and some players want instant gratification now.

  96. juanhughjazz ,

Baltimores new city slogan, just like Miami, minus the palm trees.

Just take a stroll around Baltimore, now I like the Ravens organization, but the people living in Baltimore might be drinking too much of that Harbor water, everywhere you turn it is just another ugly person and the girls are pale, droopy and fat with a touch of crack teeth.

  97. Even casual fans can see that this team’s upper-management is dysfunctional, I can’t even imagine what NFL insiders think of them.

  98. I just read the heading. Bills fan defending the fins:

Ryan Clark is an idiot, most of the Steelers are. They are turning into the Jets of the AFC North.

    To the Steelers: Shut up.
To the media: Stop interviewing idiots.

    That is all.

When Shula was around, we only had 2 losing seasons in 3 decades. We had a great owner, solid front office, and our coaches. Of course Griese and Marino.
Now i truly believe Ross does want to win but has no clue how to go about it. Biggest mistake: keeping Ireland instead of firing him and hiring a SOLID football person

Yes, you did have winning seasons…but haven’t won ANYTHING now in 40 years.

Ross has COMPLETELY ruined this organization…and while Clarks comments lack class…they are true!

Have you been in that stadium in the last 10-15 years???…Take away ANY signage…and you actually have zero idea who the home team is…Right now, Dolphins are @ rock bottom of NFL, a 2nd tier organization…Has nothing to do w/their record either. When 49rs were losing, they were still top level…Not w/Miami though.

    Time for the PAPER BAGS…

  100. yea it doesn’t look like too many FAs are linning up to join the steelers either.
Clark should talk when he learns how to cover. I can still see thomas running past their DBs in the playoffs.

  101. When you give a low-ball offer to Flynn, knowing that a refusal likely leaves you with Matt Moore, there is an organizational problem.

The fact that Alex Smith might be available now is pure luck.

  102. Ryan Clark says “no one” wants to join the Dolphins

You did! The problem was that Miami offered you what you were WORTH, not what you WANTed. You finally relized that free agency wasn’t going to work out so well for you, so you decided to go back take what Pittsburg offered you.

  103. Ireland & Ross are pathetic execs, and the laughing stick of the league. We will not be competitive until they are both gone, or if Ross smartens up and gets out of the way. No one wants to see or hear you, Ross. If you wanted to be famous you should have invested elsewhere.

    ANYTHING? In 40 years?

Miami WON the AFC East in 2008.

  105. Don’t shoot the messenger. If it isn’t true, then it is very close to the truth. Dolphins are a disaster and have been for quite some time. Ross bought a mess and is just a guy with a ton of money and knows nothing about football. Huizenga sold him a bill of goods and Ross is stuck with this train wreck. A once blind fan base finally is getting the message and is abandoning the ship.

  106. @ billsfan30192

While it is hard to dispell the fact that there are some serious issues in Miami it is also hard to dispell the fact that you are full of @#$%. In the last 10 years the Fins have had 3 winning seasons, 2 playoff appearances, won the AFC East in 2008 and last year we beat the Bills in both games. In that same time frame your Bills have had 1 winning season and no playoff appearances. Yes, you did make a splash in FA however, I think it’s a stretch to say you’ll win the AFC East but lets say you do and make the playoffs and let’s pretend you’ll make the SB. The big question is WHY BOTHER because you’ll just end up loosing. Can you say wide right, 0-4 in the SB. How’s that feel? Go Fins!

Hey boys, I will settle this arguement for you. Dolphin fan: The Dolphin fan base are a bunch of tools. Bills fans: Buffalo is a loser city filled with losers.

You two are like a couple of dorks arguing about who is the biggest dork.

  108. Ryan Clark sure likes to say bad things about a lot of different teams/people. I hope he’s understanding if he gets it back someday. Usually the biggest smack talkers are the most oversensitive when it comes back at them though. Next to Bernard Pollard, he’s probably my least favorite safety in the NFL.

  109. old dead issue I know, so laugh if you want but, I still think they fired the wrong guy and a lot of good coaches left because of it.

  110. Does anyone even know who Ryan Clark is? He’s just bitter because Ireland knew he wasn’t worth the cap space. I hope Miami gets the steelers and they call a safety blitz so Jake Long can knock Clark flat on his ass and laugh as he cries while getting carted off the field.

  111. Amazing how many ignorant comments are being made on this one.

Ryan Clark lead the number 1 defense in the NFL in tackles last season.

Ryan Clark is a SS that hits like a freight train and isn’t afraid of anyone here calling him a wuss.

Ryan Clark is a player representative for the Steelers. (He is a voice of and for the players as such)

Ryan Clark suffers from a form of sickle cell and it was his coaches(Tomlin’s) decision to not play him…after he almost died the last time he acutally played at mile high stadium.

Accept the facts before you make idiotic Troll comments.

  112. Ok Ryan you suck…no even knew you’re about sign with Miami and if you would have it woulda been just anonther dumb move by Ireland….Ryan Clark aint a top 10 or 15 safety hes a weak link…..#fireIrelandnow

  113. Jeff Ireland is two side, that’s why he’s saying this; there’s nothing wrong with franchise, it’s the front-office he’s talking about.

Remember what he said to Dez — that’s extremely disrespectful and classless, players don’t forget that kind of thing.

  114. Dave Gerrard proves Clark wrong! Why, anyone who can’t get a job elsewhere is happy to play for the Dolphins.
