Richard Seymour: Peyton will give Raiders’ D sleepless nights

AP

Richard Seymour is a veteran of many battles with Peyton Manning during the years when Patriots-Colts was the NFL’s best annual rivalry. Now Seymour will prepare to face Manning twice a year when the Raiders play the Broncos.

Seymour joked to NFL Network’s Steve Wyche that he’s going to have a hard time sleeping thinking about facing Manning this year.

“I thought having five kids gave me sleepless nights, now I have to deal with Peyton again,” Seymour said.

For as long as Seymour and Manning have been rivals, there’s no doubt that plenty of respect exists between them.

“In all seriousness, our league is a better league with Peyton and we look forward to the opportunity to face a quarterback like Peyton,” Seymour said. “It provides a measuring stick for where you are as a defense to be the best — and to be the best, you have to beat the best.”

For the first time since John Elway was the quarterback in Denver, opposing teams view playing the Broncos’ quarterback as playing the best.

  1. After all the trolling from fanateurs, it takes a real pro to state the truth.

  2. manning won’t be playing this year. He plans on cashing checks only. Swamp Boy can’t throw.

Per my Latin teacher Sister Dulcilia … caveat emptor.

  3. On surface, sure seems like Pats should have kept him. I’m not sure what, in the end, they ended up getting in return, though.

  4. Hey Seymour.
    Last I checked you’re a defensive player.
For team leaderships sake, shouldn’t you be saying stuff like “the Raiders D will be giving Peyton Manning some sleepless nights?”

Jury is still out on Shane Vereen. But, that’s who they took with the pick they got and whoever the pick this year with the Saints 1st rounder (they got a 1 from Oakland, sent it to NO for their 1 this year and their 2 last year—Vereen). They did get some cap room and he was too pricey for a overrated DE. He’s looks better suited for the DT position in the 4-3.

  6. Pats never recovered from the loss of Seymour.
The Genius F’d up with this one. he took the heart out of that defense.

  7. I’m pretty sure having zero capable starting cornerbacks on your roster is the reason you won’t be sleeping at night.

  8. I had Manning scheduled for a visit to see if he fit on my fantasy team. Guess I too lost out to Denver.

Say bye bye to the 2004 Manning. Say hello to the 2012 manning.

    __
More like say hello to the village idiot…mjkellie.

With both the Broncos and Niners staffs stating that Manning has plenty left in the tank, ignorant fools such as mjkellie look like the uninformed losers that they really are.

  11. both guys making millions per season…what do they rally care …both are laughing all the way to the bank…5 years 95 million…i guess we all know now why he picked the broncos…good for the raiders for denver to allocate that much to a older banged up manning.

  12. I like Manning going to Denver. Now I really want to go when they come to Oakland. I will be yelling like Rob Schnider in The Waterboy, rip his @@@@@@@ head off!!!

  13. Seymour said. “It provides a measuring stick for where you are as a defense to be the best — and to be the best, you have to beat the best.”

This guy said it the best…that’s why I don’t mind see Manning going to the Denver along with Rivers with S.D. and Palmer with Raider, we will get to see where the K.C.’s defense truly are at. Also, Crennel always gave Manning hard time when they were with N.E. and Colts so no worries there. I just hope this year will be the year when AFCW will stop being known as the “weak” division of AFC!

  14. Honestly, this was a nice gesture from Seymour. They are probably friends and he hopes the best for Manning. He’s giving props for the past, and praying he doesn’t get injured again. I don’t know, I feel like they gave Manning way too much money. One hit and boom it could be over forever. Peyton took the money and ran.

  15. As for Pats trading Seymour…

Well, if I believe bearsrulepackdrool we got cap space and Vereen (and is the jury REALLY still out on him?) and a pick on the way. Nice comment/info from you, in any case.

Or I can go with huskersrock1 and Nate Solder.

Either way, perhaps it’s worked out best for everyone. Raiders definitely got a first round pick value out of it, Seymour seems happy, Pats are just fine. He was just one of the defining Pats defensive players of the earlier era, and (sniffle) I miss him.

They got Nate Solder with the Seymour pick, I believe.

  17. Can people please stop with the one hit and he is done talk. If folks would actually research the process, you would realize just how uneducated they sound. There have been countless doctors state on the record that his neck is just as strong if not stronger now. Bethea had the same procedure and he is flying around in the secondary.

As for Seymour’s comment, props for going on the record and showing Manning the respect that he has EARNED, time and time again.

On who he will be throwing to, who cares, this is freakin Manning. If he can make Blair White a good receiver, he can make anyone work. Also, don’t be surprised if Dallas Clark shows up in Denver.

Give my best to Barney Frank.

  19. Well said, Richard. You have to beat the best to be the best. If not, pack up your marbles and go home.

  20. I’m not pleased Manning is in the AFC West, especially with the Broncos, but I think Denver just put our division on notice. I just hope those sleepless nights turn Seymour cranky and mean.

Is Seymore still on the Raiders, I heard the could no longer afford good players. Didn’t they just cut half their team.

You would think a truebroncofan would know what’s going on in his division. You can look up information on google. They don’t care if you can’t spell the names correctly, and you won’t appear to be so lame.

  22. Anybody who knows the “Sea more to believe” knows this guy is a class act as a professional in every way. Hall of Famer!!! My favorite class act of his? IS when he DROPPED little ben Rothlis’buger’ on national TV with a open hand punch to the head!!!!!!. But lets not make any mistake her about Sea man and his friendship with Manning, If he gets the chance to lay out Manning like a Mack truck? He will “GO DOWN AND MUST GO DOWN HARD” as our late great leader (R.I.P) Al Davis used to say about apposing QB’s. But that being said, Its also nice to see that the AFC West is now starting to really look like a divisional contender with.. Manning, Rivers, and Palmer? KC aint nothing more then another team taking what scraps they can get from the (RAIDERS) kings table…..Just win BABY!!!!

  23. One more thing…..I thought there were 11 players on offense and not just Manning? Who are the other 10 guys? Never heard of em!!!!! Who is the Receiving core? front O line? last time I saw they had T-bo running for his life every down!!!! I hope that neck is real strong when you come into town to pay a visit to the Black Hole and we all know you cant run Manning!!!! Game on!!!!

  24. I would take Palmer over Manning right now..
Denver will suck, the only reason why they were in the playoffs was because of the D coach now that D coach is the Raiders coach…
Manning will not last more than 4 weeks

Well he wasn’t that in NE starting in about 04 so you guys got the better part of him, congrats. He obviously needed a change of scenery because he wasn’t happy in NE.

I did enjoy the dopey penalty he incurred because he was so eager to smack down TB last year though. 😀
