David Hawthorne may not be happy when he gets to Detroit

As we reported during the Elway-Manning tag-team press conference that refused to end, the Lions have signed linebacker Stephen Tulloch to a five-year deal.

Linebacker David Hawthorne likely didn’t get the memo.

Anwar Richardson of MLive.com reports that Hawthorne was in a plane bound for Detroit when news broke of the Tulloch deal, unaware that the guy whom Hawthorne would have been replacing no longer needs to be replaced.

Hawthorne, who spent his first four seasons with the Seahawks, also has visited the Saints.

Lions officials currently are drawing straws to determine who’ll be the one to tell Hawthorne he came to town for no reason.
