Colts sign Samson Satele

Free agent offensive lineman Samson Satele was arrested on disorderly conduct charges on Saturday. Apparently the Colts weren’t concerned.

The Colts announced today that they have signed Satele, who played the last three years with the Raiders.

The 27-year-old Satele has been a starter for his entire five-year NFL career. He was a second-round draft pick of the Dolphins in 2007, started all 32 games over in seasons there, and then was traded to the Raiders before the 2009 season, starting 42 games in three seasons in Oakland.

Satele didn’t do himself any favors in free agency by getting arrested, but he could be a solid upgrade to the Colts’ offensive line, likely taking the place of the departing Jeff Saturday as the starting center in Indianapolis.

  1. Arrested for disorderly conduct? Sounds like he has the “nasty streak” that teams value.

  2. With all that dead money they have from Manning, Clark, Freeney, etc they can not be picky in who they sign!

Getting arrested simply made him affordable to them.

  3. Arrest aside, it’s a good signing for the Colts. Not the best center in the league but a good player. Can get to the second level on the screen and longer run plays. Tough player that I didn’t miss many games. Wasn’t a head case on or off the field either while with the Raiders, which makes his arrest all the more surprising and leads me to believe he may not be guilty. Would have liked to see him stay as a back-up, but Wiz is the better player at center for us now.

  4. The only thing notable about Satele is that he was drafted with the 2nd round pick the Phins got for trading Welker to New England. He’s a JAG.

  5. Samson Satele, the guy we got for Welker’s 2nd round pick from the Pats…. oh yes, another one of the boneheaded decisions by my Dolphins in the last 10 years…
    1. passing on Brees twice
    2. 2nd rounders for QBs: AJ Feeley, Culpepper, Beck, Henne, Pat White
    3. horrible drafting: Jason Allen, Eddie Moore, Ted Ginn (he was picked over Patrick Willis and Revis), Jamar Fletecher, and on and on and on

I could go on for a while here….but no

  6. Samson “formerly listed as #65 on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100 List but inexplicably dropped completely off the list when Kamerion Wimbley was recently added” Satele, you mean?
