Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck just wrapped up a solid Pro Day performance, during which he completed 46-of-50 pass attempts. Three of Luck’s “incompletions” were dropped.
It was a windy day in Stanford, with gusts in the 15-20 mph range. Temperatures were in the 50s. NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock praised Luck’s willingness to perform in less-than-ideal conditions.
“The fact that this kid’s willing to come out here in this kind of element ... tells you a lot,” said Mayock on NFL Network’s live telecast. “I can’t underscore this enough. We’re outdoors on a windy day, he made two bad throws to start, and now he’s fine.”
As Mayock alluded to, Luck wasn’t perfect. He doesn’t have a cannon for an arm, and there were several underthrows during the Pro Day workout, especially early on.
“I do believe RG3 has a slightly bigger arm,” Mayock acknowledged. “But that’s not the true measure of a quarterback.”
As for whether Robert Griffin III could surpass Luck for the No. 1 overall pick, former Colts G.M. Bill Polian believes Indianapolis doesn’t truly have a particularly difficult decision.
“Bottom line, this is a no-lose decision,” Polian said Thursday. “Both players in my mind are absolutely as sure as can be to make it in the National Football League. ... These guys are locks. The question is who fits best. I believe the answer is Mr. [Jim] Irsay feels that Andrew fits best.
“Bottom line, welcome to Indianapolis, Andrew.”
