It wouldn’t be a normal week for NFL news without an update regarding the effort to build a new NFL stadium in Minnesota.
And unlike the typical bad news, there now appears to be some good news.
Maybe.
According to Doug Belden of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, a member of the Minneapolis City Council is in the process of drafting a letter to legislative leaders supporting the proposed construction of a new facility near the Metrodome. Technically meaningless, an expression of support from a majority of the 13-member council is regarded as critical to the effort, since the crafting of a bill at the state level would amount to a waste of time if the city that would host the stadium isn’t behind it.
That said, it’s unclear whether the draft letter expresses the current feelings of a majority of council or whether it simply has been prepared by one of the stadium supporters. The person on whose letterhead the draft was prepared is believed to be a supporter of the stadium.
So until the letter is finalized and sent, it really doesn’t mean anything.
So, basically, the stadium is no closer to being built.
So we’ll ignore it all again for at least a week.
