Former Super Bowl MVP joins concussion lawsuits

The group of former NFL players suing the league for its past concussion practices continues to grow. According to the Washington Times, the latest addition to the class action comes from a new 126-member filing, which includes Super Bowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien.

The class also includes former first-round draft busts Tony Mandarich and Todd Marinovich.

Rypien, whose 12-year included fewer than three seasons as a full-time starter (all with the Redskins), reportedly told USA Today in 1995 that he suffered only two concussions during his NFL career.

The various lawsuits against the NFL claim that the league knew about the long-term health risks and failed to share them with the players, and that the league generally took insufficient steps to protect players from concussions.
