Redskins coach Mike Shanahan thinks he has the last franchise quarterback he’ll ever have to acquire in Robert Griffin III.

At the league meeting Wednesday, Shanahan said he loves Griffin not only as a quarterback, but as a person.

“He’s a great guy, great parents -- I had a chance to spend a couple hours with his parents, and you know where he gets it,” Shanahan said of meeting Robert Griffin Jr. and Jacqueline Griffin, the retired Army sergeant parents of RG3. “It’s everything you look for as a person.”

Of course, it doesn’t matter to the Redskins how great a person Griffin is if he isn’t also a great quarterback. Fortunately, Shanahan says he sees everything he wants to see on tape of Griffin on the field.

“Obviously, you look at the film and you like what you see on film,” Shanahan said. “As we all know, from the collegiate level to the pro level there are growing pains. Every quarterback goes through it. But he’s got such a big upside.”

Shanahan said he’d also be happy with Andrew Luck if the Colts pull off a surprise move and take Griffin first overall. But Shanahan sounds like he’s ready to marry his coaching future to Griffin.
