Vikings bill clears first hurdle in Minnesota Legislature

After weeks of being stuck in neutral, the drive for a new Vikings stadium finally is moving. (Maybe the politicians were simply mimicking the team’s offense.)

The House Commerce Committee, on a divided vote, decided to advance a bill regarding stadium construction, according to the Duluth News Tribune. Because, however, the process missed a deadline, the House Rules Committee must vote to put the measure back on track.

The House Commerce Committee also approved the funding plan. The funding bill currently is stalled in the Senate.

Representative Morrie Lanning, who introduced the stadium construction bill, said Monday that there is “a very real possibility” the Vikings will leave Minnesota if a new stadium isn’t built.

It’s about time that folks are waking up to this reality. The question now becomes whether they care enough to keep that from happening.
