Vikings aren’t currently pursuing Parcells

Yes, the Vikings have pursued Bill Parcells to assume some sort of a role with the team.

No, despite a New York Post report that is attributed to no specific reporter, the effort currently is not ongoing.

Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com reports that the Vikings previously reached out to Parcells, something we hinted strongly at on Tuesday. Per Pelissero, the “conversations happened a long time ago and there has been no recent contact between the sides.”

As we hear it, the effort related to Parcells joining the team after the 2011 season.

Still, the idea that owner Zygi Wilf would hand the keys to Parcells in April, after publicly declaring that coach Leslie Frazier will remain and promoting Rick Spielman to G.M. makes no sense, for many reasons.

And so any effort by Parcells to create the impression during his talks with the Saints that the Vikings are standing at his doorstep with a blank check is simply incorrect. But when it comes to the high-stakes game of poker in which Parcells currently is engaged with the Saints, it’s no surprise to see a little bluffing.
