The Redskins added a little depth at tackle Monday when they announced the signing of free agent James Lee.
Lee has been with the Buccaneers since Tampa claimed him off of waivers from the Browns in 2008. Cleveland signed him the same year as an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina State. Lee has played 19 games with the Bucs over the last four years, making 10 starts, but he played just three games in 2010.
With Jamaal Brown struggling to get over a hip injury, Lee gives the Redskins some experienced depth who isn’t likely to push Brown out of the lineup as long as Brown is healthy enough to be on the field. Tackle is still an area the Redskins could address in the draft, especially with Trent Williams one failed drug test away from being suspended for a full year.
The Redskins also addressed depth on the other side of the line by re-signing defensive end Kedric Golston, according to Chris Russell of ESPN 980 Radio. Golston, a sixth-round pick in 2006, had 1.5 sacks in nine games last season before going on injured reserve. Stephen Bowen will start at one end with Adam Carriker and Jarvis Jenkins possibilities on the other side, leaving Golston to battle the likes of Darrion Scott and Kentwan Balmer for playing time in the team’s rotation this season.
