Griffin visits Redskins in D.C.

Heisman winner Robert Griffin III may not be participating in any private workouts, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be taking any private meetings.

At a time when the Redskins already are reportedly visiting with Griffin twice per week in Texas, Griffin is visiting with the Redskins in the D.C. area, according to WUSA9.com.

Griffin was spotted, per the report, at a local restaurant restaurant with Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen, and head coach Mike Shanahan.

It’s unknown whether Griffin has visited or will be visiting the team’s facility on or has worked out or will be working out for the team at its headquarters or doing anything else in D.C. other than eating dinner and hanging out with the folks who run the franchise.

It’s also unknown whether the Colts have invited Griffin to clear out his sinus cavities with the cocktail sauce at St. Elmo’s in Indy, and whether if invited Griffin has accepted.  But the tea leaves continue to point toward Griffin wanting the Redskins, the Redskins wanting Griffin, and both sides hoping that the always-unpredictable Colts owner Jim Irsay doesn’t catch a wild hair on the early evening of April 26 and select Griffin over Luck.

UPDATE 9:44 a.m. ET:  A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that Griffin was and still is in the D.C. area.  He’s meeting with the Redskins, but not working out — in part because the pre-draft workouts can’t occur at team facilities.

  1. And the Redskins have officially changed their facebook status to “In a Relationship”

  2. A local restaurant restaurant? Little Caesars, perhaps?

    Pizza pizza.

  3. I can’t remember a top 5 draft prospect ever being so involved with a single team this far before the draft. Possible Danny Boy and the skins are playing mind games with the Colts in order to get Luck? hmmm

  4. ….and Colts fans everywhere hope that Irsay selects Andrew Luck and not RGLeaf.

  5. They were at the Palm in Tysons.

I guess my question is why is Danny there? Danny if you read this, just leave it alone. You’re the owner, leave this to the coach and player.

Coach, coaches son and fake GM. Meddling owner. I’m starting to get nervous…

    Signed,

    Redskins Nation.

I would argue that Luck would be more along the lines of a Ryan Leaf, considering his hype and potential. Also, if you look at the pedigree of the colleges where they played, they are very similar.

I’m in no way saying Luck will be a bust like Leaf, but lets at least make accurate comparisons.

  7. RG3 to DC is definitely going to happen and anyone that believes otherwise is fooling themselves. I personally think the Skins front office have already received wind that Colts are definitely going to take Luck, hence all the time being invested with spending time w/RGIII..

    HTTR!!!

No one thought Leaf was going to be Leaf either.

  9. Overrated!!!!!!!!! Overrated!!!!!!!! Enjoy mediocrity in DC Griff. I guarantee that at some point this season RGIII and the most overrated coach of all time will have a blow up. It’s gonna be hella good

I’m just spending a little time with my new toy, I will not get any face time once the season starts because I’ll do what owners do which is sit back, relax and write checks. Don’t worry I don’t plan on messing this one up I just want him to know I fully support him coming to DC..

Luck has a proven track record while Griffin is a one year wonder. Griffin is more like Leaf. More talked about up to the draft. Anything the Redskins touch fails so I look forward to comparing Griffin to Akili Smith, Tim Couch, Brian Griese etc. Here’s hoping the deadskins have 20 more years of being pathetic.

    Hail to the Deadskins
    Hail no VICTOR-E
    Dan Snyder is a LOSER
They don’t play in old DC

  12. Isn’t this draft just full of manufactured intrigue? We all know Irsay will pick Luck but we also know the dude is slightly cuckoo.

You’re an idiot and a troll. Just stop hating and worry about your team TROLL

  14. They were eating at the Palm, yet another reason to move the team back to DC, the city has so many more good places to eat than the outer rim of northern VA.

Danny was just there to get a meal on the company dime.

  15. I keep seeing the RGLeaf stuff, can someone perhaps give me why the comparrison is being made, hopefully it entails more than “these are the top two quarterbacks and the Colts have a tough decision to make.” RG3 doesn’t come off like Ryan Leaf in any interview, he is confident, but he has always been about his teammates. He doesn’t think he will go first over-all, so he is apparently very happy to go to the next team up. He hasn’t whined about that at all, so please, show me the immaturity that Leaf showed.

  16. Gweez,

You don’t represent Redskins Nation, at all, not one iota. I want Danny there, because if/when Shannahan gets fired, we will still have RG3 and Snyder.

  17. My Vision for RGIII 4/10/2012 by PriorKnowledge

It is physically impossible that an athlete as good as RGIII will be a bust. He may not be a super-star, but at worst, he will be a good, serviceable QB in the upper half of league QBs by his 3rd year. If history repeats itself, his first year he will make OMG great plays and also stupid interceptions so bad that the coaches will give him a color blindness test just to be sure. His second year, the OMG great plays will continue at about the same, constant rate, his consistency on ordinary plays will increase dramatically, and his stupid plays will drop off some. By his third year, he will either break out and be a top 5 QB, or be a top half QB that plays good, and sometimes pulls out miraculous wins in the 4th quarter, or blows his chance in the 4th quarter with an inexplicable interception.

That is what an analysis of the average awesome athlete plus smart draft prospect QB suggests. Anything other than that is just a WAG.

  18. There’s something strange here: Your prospective employer wants to hire you. You want your prospective employer to hire you. Can it be that simple. I think so.

Anyone who would put another teams name before the skins should never speak to me about the Skins. You’re worse than the haters. You’re a fake fan. Never speak to me again. You disgust me.

They were spotted at Ben’s Chili Bowl in southeast

    Ben’s is in Northwest

  21. @kylemc1986

You must not be from DC…Ben’s Chili Bowl is, and always has been in NW, on U st. Just because it is the first black owned and operated restaurant in DC, does not mean it resides in SW.

I dare you to make snide racist comment in front of a black person.

    D*ck

  22. Don’t do it Skins he wont have the intelligence to learn the playbook or run Shanahans offense, I mean come on he went to Baylor in a state that can only produce bull headed athletes none of which who can play Quarterback.

  23. There is no Ben’s chili bowl in Southeast. Except at Nats Park, and they are not open.

  24. Andrew Luck is also in town. Move along folks, there is nothing here to see. Redskins just doing due diligence like any another team would.

  25. I hope both RG3 and Luck are successful from the start, wherever they end up.
Three years from now, that’s when the real “Who is better?” discussions can begin…

  26. No one thought Leaf was going to be Leaf either.
    ——————————————————-
Yeah, BUT there was a huge red-flag. if you dont know it, you didnt watch the top 10 nfl draft busts, but in pre-draft interviews when asked what he would do if he was the top pick, he answered, “i gotta be honest, if i was the top pick, i would take a week in Vegas” ouch.

i dont see anyone being Leaf and if someone even shows that red flag, they wont draft them high. i dont see RG3 being a bust, but if he is, it could be like Smith. i think RG3 will be at least a good QB.

the redskins spent 4 draft picks on him. all of them high draft picks. he needs to be a top 5 qb, anything less is fail.

and i guess you never heard of guys like Andre Ware before.

  28. article states they dont know if griffin will work out for the redskins, well i can tell you that and its NO! per league rules visits to teams cannot include workouts. they can give a physical and/or mental test. the only time college players are allowed to work out is at the combine, pro days.

  29. So funny how people talk about rg3 now that he is coming to he dmv. If he was going to “their” team they wouldnt be able to contain the excitement. Right browns fan.

So happy that im not from DC where 1 out of every 100 ppl have AIDS. And im not a racist I have friends that have black friends.

  31. I hate to disappoint you nay-sayers who believe that Griffin is a one year wonder. Anyone who has followed Baylor football knows that he was a great quarterback from his first day on campus, it is just that the national media didn’t notice.
He came into the game in the first quarter of the first game of his freshman year and led the team to a come back victory. He set an NCAA record for the number of completions without an interception. As a true freshman, he had only 3 interceptions to 160 completions with a 60% pass completion average.
For his career at Baylor he had 17 interceptions to 78 touchdowns. He completed 67% of his passes. That says nothing about the 2257 yards rushing he had with over 4 yards per carry.
I only wish I could be a Redskins fan!
