The man who once said he’s not going to be the Alabama coach now is, and five of the players who delivered Nick Saban his second national championship as the Alabama coach will attend the draft on April 26.

The Crimson Tide quintet are hoping that their coach will roll to Radio City Music Hall. And it sounds like he will.

Saban said Thursday he hopes to attend in support of running back Trent Richardson, safety Mark Barron, cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, linebackers Courtney Upshaw and Dont’a Hightower.

“It really is a happy time to know that all these guys probably worked their whole athletic career to this point to have an opportunity like this,” Saban said. “I certainly hope and pray that each one of these guys do get picked in the first round. . . . I think it’s great for our program.”

It’s definitely great for the program. Because it helps Saban do that which he does better than anyone -- recruit high-school seniors to sign up to play football for him.

So here’s hoping Saban makes it to New York. We’ll make sure the green room is stocked with Little Debbie’s.
