The younger brother of 49ers tight end Vernon Davis and Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis has been arrested for assault in Washington, D.C. and is a suspect in the murder of a tourist in the city on Tuesday.

The Associated Press reports that 19-year-old Michael Davis was arrested and accused of striking a woman in the head with a hammer. Police are investigating whether he is also responsible for a series of similar attacks, including the killing of a 66-year-old man. Davis’ father confirmed to ABC 7 in Washington that Michael Davis is the younger brother of Vernon and Vontae.

Vernon Davis wrote the following on his verified Twitter account on Thursday night: “Just got a disturbing call from back home in washington dc. A good day gone bad! Hopefully he wasn’t involved!”

In 2009 Vernon wrote of his younger brother, “Michael is more talented than both Vontae and I. I just hope he works hard and sticks with it so he can join us in the NFL one day.”

Police say Michael Davis may have been involved in a series of at least four attacks on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, all of which led to serious head injuries for the victims.

  1. Both my brothers are paid but I want to crack people over the head with a hammer….that’s whats hot on the streets?

  2. Hopefully Vernon is right, and the REAL guy who is hitting people in the head with a hammer is also the same guy who called Mohamad Sanu and told him he was drafted by the Bengals, as the world’s biggest jerk.

  3. Hopefully your mastery of the English language improves before you write your next headline.

Unfortunate. Everyone has that idiot family member you wish would just go away…

    ————————————–

Thank goodness that isn’t true in my family… wait. Does that mean I’m the idiot family member? Damn.

  5. Unrelated Dolphin question: Anybody remember what deal Miami made with Carolina regarding 2nd round picks? I am curious why we are drafting 10th today.

  6. Not a good sign when the best thing your brother can say is that he “hopes” he wasn’t involved. Usually a family member will say that there is no way that so and so could have done such a thing but Vernon is just “hoping” that it wasn’t his brother. Not exactly a strong endorsement.

  7. Just reading Vontae’s tweet is kind of telling. “Hoping” he’s not involved. That alone tells me he’s not exactly surprised this happened. This is a very disturbing story, and it sounds like his talent will waste away behind bars.

  8. He must have a terrible attitude to have two NFL players in the family and the perks that go with that and do this. Running around hitting people with a hammer???

  9. That kid has issues if you’re striking women with hammers. Ask for their purse and be on your way. Whoever did this, will be getting a different body part hammered very soon. Prisoners loves these types of people. Literally Love them.

  10. What’s scary is that dude in the photo with Vernon, who is supposed to be his brother Michael I guess, is only 19.

  11. Oh, wait… I think those dudes in the photo are actually Vernon and Vontae… never mind.

  12. I say that the Saints should draft him. He could “drop the hammer” on opposing players……..

I know, that’s really bad. It sounds like an awful situation for everyone involved. Jokes aside, stuff like this is tragic.

  13. bchapman2011 – There wasn’t a deal. We, Carolina, and Buffalo all had the same record, and who picks first among the three teams changes round to round.

Buffalo will pick first of the three in the 3rd round, and us first again in the 4th.

  14. Now that’s an ugly story, an ugly piece of news for everybody. That’s just plain vicious and cold blooded. No room for humor there at all. 66 year old bashed in, a mother destroyed a life taken and a life wasted Wow. And this is on an NFL sight? What’s in the newspapers there?

  15. I live in DC area. These attacks have been reported on the news as completely random attacks with no motive or pattern to them. How messed up is that?

  16. I don’t know what’s more disturbing. The brutality of a hammer to the head.. or the fact that just because someone has been arrested that they are guilty until proven innocent when it should be the other way around.

  17. DC is one of the most heavily monitored cities in the world. I think I read a stat that said they have a 95% resolution rate to all violent crimes. Chances are if Davis the younger got arrested, they probably caught him in the act on CCTV.

  18. Sounds like he would fit well in Oakland….but seriously, hitting anyone with a hammer?? If he did this, and Vernon’s tweet wasn’t very positive, he should go away forever…a hammer to the head……..

  19. It would be great if your photos had a description, so the uninformed would know if they were looking at Vernon, Vontae or Michael (or two other dudes alltogether). I’ve thought this many times about PFT.

  20. If Vernon is “hoping” that his his brother isn’t a nasty murderer, then he knows Michael is already into some bad sh*t. Little bro has two brothers in the NFL and he can’t move out of the hood and stay out of trouble?? Nice parenting and nice family. Teach your kids to obey the law. The communities in the hoods need to band together and demand that their young people obey the law and be good and productive citizens.

  21. @guilty until proven

for the record A GUY (whether its him or not) running around hitting people in the head with a hammer if FAR more disturbing than comments assuming guilt on a webpage.

what should we do. wait till the trial before commenting on the crime?

just 80 posts saying “i can not comment on an ongoing investigation”.

    that’d be fun

“Hopefully” my brother hasn’t been murdering people with a hammer? That’s an unfortunate tweet on many levels. Having a hard time imagining myself getting a call like that and immediately needing to tweet about it to a bunch of strangers.

  23. The Dyson brothers went to my high school, Kevin was there about ten years before I attended and Andre played football and basketball with my older cousin a few years after Kevin was there. Our coaches always told us the cautionary tale of the 3rd Dyson brother who was supposedly head and shoulders above the other two but couldn’t keep it together off the field. Sad this guy and that 3rd Dyson brother couldn’t just do the old athlete bare minimum and do something with their amazing abilities.
