Now a Colt, Luck “excited to be part of such a storied franchise”

It’s been expected for more than a year that Andrew Luck would be the first overall pick of the 2012 NFL draft, but now that it’s official, what Luck says most excites him isn’t being the first pick. It’s being an Indianapolis Colt.

Luck told PFT’s Mike Florio at Radio City Music Hall shortly after the pick became official that he’s thrilled to have found his new team.

“The big deal for me is to be part of the Indianapolis Colts,” Luck said. “That makes me happy. The fact that it’s No. 1 is special, it’s great, but I’m just excited to be part of such a storied franchise, get out there and get with my new teammates.”

Luck said he knew he’d be the first pick because Colts G.M. Ryan Grigson told him so, but that didn’t take any of the excitement out of draft night.

“I trust Mr. Grigson when he says he’ll take me,” Luck said. “I don’t think it diminished too much of the excitement, there was so much energy and excitement. What an experience getting to walk across that stage.”

Here’s Florio’s interview with Luck:
