Jim Sorgi to get a workout with the Raiders

As the Raiders prepare to face quarterback Peyton Manning twice per year, what better way to get ready than to hire the guy who served as Peyton’s understudy for six seasons?

The Associated Press reports that the Raiders will work out Jim Sorgi on Tuesday.

Sorgi played for the Colts from 2004 through 2009, serving as the backup to Manning.  Sorgi has since been out of the league, last surfacing in October 2011, when the Dolphins included Sorgi in a six-man Gong Show that ultimately was won by Sage Rosenfels.

The Raiders also plan to work out Matt Leinart.  The only backups to Carson Palmer currently on the roster are Terrelle Pryor and Rhett Bomar.

  1. Anyone is better than Boller at this point. After that KC game I don’t know how he’s made it on the roster this far with Reggie running things.

  2. Can’t wait to see his name on the list of players suing NFL for concussion.

You know that clip board must have left a mark somewhere.

  3. the last hand-picked player by Al Davis was Terrell Pryor,

watch that man be the future of the Raiders

  4. Even if Sorgi was out of the league for awhile he’s still got to be better than Leinart.

  5. I can tell the Raiders what Sorgi will tell them. Peyton will do what he always does. He will line up the offense, look at the defensive formation, and adjust accordingly.

  6. Also, quick someone save a screenshot of the Sorgi headline on the PFT homepage for his family.

  7. the broncos should watch all the film they can of this guy to since that is what their backups will look like if they ever play in a game. no wait hanie is one now isn’t he? then it will be even worse!

fyi boller is not on the raiders, bomar is and has more upside then any of theses vets.

  9. Sorgi who? I guess he can’t be any worse than Boller. Why don’t they put Pryor in as a WR? I don’t think he’ll make a QB in the pro’s. A wide receiver I think he’d be good at. He’s fast, young, has good hands and has great size. Not sure who would be a good backup QB right now.

  10. Sorgi and Manning are buddys.

He is not going to tell them a thing. He never got to practice the offense the Colts ran.

Manning (THE SELFISH) never let a backup take reps in practice.

  11. LOL

How different is Carson Palmer from Pryor and Bomar?

@seanmartin- please reference the above post….

  13. It’s amazing anyone would take the time to register and post on Kyle Boller, and not realize he isn’t on the Raiders. A simple search of free agents and you’d see he’s an unsigned FA.

Carson Palmer was able to make to 3 Pro Bowls I believe and be mentioned in the same sentence as Brees, Brady, Maning and Rothelsberger. Pryor has never played a snap and Bhomar is a Backup or 3rd stringer on a bad team. Palmer also accomplished this while on the Bengals, which speaks volumes.

  15. Good for Jim. He was always a humble guy and a great backup for the Colts. I wish him the best!

  16. Not out of the league between 2009 and 2011, he was with the Giants at one point.

  17. I always felt like Jim Sorgi’s career could have turned out a lot like Aaron Rodgers’!! Maybe if Peyton had this neck injury 4 years earlier or if Sorgi had not been soo loyal to the team that drafted him & actually gone out in search of an open competition for a QB1 spot on another roster.. For a period of about three or four years he was probably better than a half dozen starters in the league!!

And all you people who write how bad he sucks… I have a simple question… How exactly does one come to such a conclusion when there is literally almost zero film on the guy other than pre-season or mop up duty?!?!
