Colts sign four draft picks

The big fish of the 2012 Draft is still waiting for his contract, but four of the littler fish the Colts picked up have signed theirs.

The Colts have announced that they have agreed to terms with running back Vick Ballard, wide receiver LaVon Brazill, defensive end Tim Fugger and quarterback Chandler Harnish. As you likely know from reading several reports of this type, all three of them signed four-year deals with the Colts.

Ballard, a fifth-round pick, is built like a power back and will probably compete for that job with Delone Carter. Brazill joins fellow rookie T.Y. Hilton as new additions to the receiving corps. The sixth-round pick will be part of what figures to be a fairly open battle for snaps across from Reggie Wayne. Fugger, a seventh-round pick, had an impressive 13.5 tackles for losses in his senior season at Vanderbilt but will likely start out in a special teams role.

Harnish is, of course, the final pick of the draft. This year’s Mr. Irrelevant just had knee surgery, according to Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star, and he’ll be fighting for the third quarterback job behind Luck when he’s healthy.

Aaron Wilson of is also reporting that the team has agreed to terms with fifth-round pick Josh Chapman. Chapman played on a torn ACL and meniscus for Alabama last year, but still helped their defense pave the way to a national title. If he’s healthy, Chapman could start at nose tackle this season.

Hilton and Luck are two of the five picks the Colts still haven’t signed or reportedly signed.
