York takes Niners out of Hard Knocks running

Jed York, Ed Lee, Greg Suhr

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, center, is met by police chief Greg Suhr, left, and San Francisco 49ers CEO and President Jed York before attending a news conference at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, Monday, Aug. 22, 2011. The 49ers announced they are banning tailgating in the parking lot of Candlestick Park after games start, and any season ticket holders caught misbehaving on video will have their tickets revoked. The moves announced Monday are in reaction to the violence that marred a weekend preseason NFL football game. In addition, York says he will recommend to the NFL that the annual preseason game between the archrival 49ers and Oakland Raiders be put off next year. (AP Photo/Eric Risberg)

Last night, we posted a snippet from Redskins coach Mike Shanahan’s appearance on PFT Live regarding his lack of interest in participating in Hard Knocks. And then, as we always do, we posted the link to the story on the PFT Twitter account.

And then, as it always does, the tweet appeared on the timeline of 49ers owner Jed York, who follows the PFT Twitter account. And then, as he does from time to time, York re-tweeted a tweet that appeared in his timeline with the following comment: “No Hard Knocks for the @49ers.”

And then, I retweeted his retweet of our tweet from the PFT Twitter account.

And then, about 18 hours later, I realized that, while millions of you frequent this space, only 275,000 or so of you follow the PFT Twitter account.

And then I wondered whether more of you would be on Twitter if the words involved were slightly more masculine than “Twitter” or “tweet” or “hashtag.” (Actually, “hashtag” is fairly masculine, but only when used in reference to a small crumb of a spiked brownie that wasn’t washed off the eater’s neck before it fused to his or her skin.)

Regardless, you now know what you would have known instantly if you followed the PFT Twitter account: That the 49ers won’t be on Hard Knocks in 2012.

And then you realized that this quite possibly was a glorified ad for the PFT Twitter account.

And then you drove to that place two blocks south of the Dairy Queen where the guy who wears one Puma shoe and one Reebok sells the stuff you use to spike your brownies.
