Cowboys want to see Mike Jenkins at OTAs

Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins may not be on the team for long, and he definitely won’t be able to participate in organized team activities as he recovers from shoulder surgery. But the coaching staff wants to see him there anyway.

We’re certainly hopeful of that,” Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said when asked if Jenkins will attend OTAs.

Jenkins, who is entering the final season of his contract, was placed on the trade block when the Cowboys drafted Morris Claiborne. Although Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he still sees big role for Jenkins on the team, Jenkins has stayed in Florida this offseason rather than participating in voluntary workouts in Dallas.

The fact that Garrett hasn’t heard anything from Jenkins may indicate that Jenkins isn’t planning to be there when OTAs start on Tuesday.

“Don’t know either way,” Garrett said.

Last year Jenkins started 12 games for the Cowboys. This year the arrival of Claiborne and Brandon Carr raises questions about whether Jenkins still has a place on the defense, and although the Cowboys want to see Jenkins at OTAs, we may see Jenkins in another team’s uniform this season.
