Chiefs have “no concerns whatsoever” about Jamaal Charles’ recovery

The Kansas City Chiefs lost their best offensive player on September 18 of last season, when tailback Jamaal Charles tore his left ACL against the Detroit Lions. In hindsight, the Chiefs are probably happy the injury occurred so early last season. Charles has had ample time to recuperate.

Chris Mortensen reported on ESPN 32 late Friday that the Chiefs have “no concerns whatsoever” about Charles’ readiness for the 2012 season. Though Charles won’t practice until training camp, his absence from OTAs is purely a precaution. The Chiefs have held fellow ACL patients Eric Berry and Tony Moeaki out of spring practices, too.

Mort stated that the Chiefs are “excited” about Charles’ potential in their new offense, run by former Browns and Dolphins coordinator Brian Daboll.

With Daboll as offensive coordinator in Miami last year, Reggie Bush broke out for a career-high 1,086 rushing yards while averaging over five yards per attempt and running more decisively in between the tackles than ever before. Daboll also oversaw breakout seasons from Peyton Hillis (2010) and Jerome Harrison (2009) the previous two years in Cleveland.

  1. Im glad to see theres a large percentage of people who have concerns over him in fantasy football. Im gonna steal him in the 2nd round every chance I can.

  2. I like the odds on Charles’, &/or Moeaki’s, &/or Berry’s knees holding up before Manning’s neck.
Can’t wait to see Tamba Hali & Justin Houston meet at the QB.

    Go Chiefs!

  3. Well said Eddie…I just saw your post while typing.

He didn’t tear his ACL AGAINST the Detroit Lions, he tore it running into the ACTUAL Detroit LION.

Although ACL’s suck and take time to recover from, they are not a “death sentence” anymore. They will all be fine and not miss a beat as long as they don’t lose it mentally out of “fear” for the knee.

Things only go wrong when guys start to pay “care-ful” instead of “care-free”!

All the best from a Pat’s fan but an NFL fan who does not want ANYTHING to happen to ANY team.

  4. I’m a Bronco.fan and my fellow Bronco fans will hate me, but I may be the only one who isn’t blinded by the arrival of Peyton Manning. I have lots of respect for what KC is doing, and Oakland. I don’t see the Broncos running away with the West as everyone else does. In fact, if all 4 AFC west teams stay healthy, I look for probably the tightest division in the NFL. I haven’t felt like this in years.

From what I’ve seen lately, Bronco fans believe Denver will win the division going away, Chief fans think it’s already locked up, Charger fans believe that since they aren’t being proclaimed Super Bowl favorites that they are bound to win a title, and Raider fans hate everyone even more than everyone hates them. But most outsiders don’t see a clear cut favorite.

  6. Charles was a beast a UT. Unfortunately for him he’s in Kansas City, where the Hunts have no ambition or desire to win a Super Bowl. You sign Stanford”Burnt Toast”Routt and let Brandon Carr walk? And the excuse is to save cap money when your team is already 30+ million under the cap? All the Hunts care about is filling Arrowhead every sunday, not attempting to win a Super Bowl. Unfortunately for K.C football fans, they have no other choice since there isn’t another team worth watching anywhere close.
