Salguero: Great teams steer clear of Hard Knocks

Miami+Dolphins+Training+Camp+Cr3xhlQD65ol

Our unofficial Dolphins correspondent, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, joined PFT Live on Wednesday to discuss the team’s decision to appear on this year’s version of Hard Knocks.

And Armando twice made a fairly important point.

The truly great NFL franchises -- the Giants, Steelers, Packers, and Patriots -- would never do Hard Knocks. Ever.

(Feel free to disagree in the comments with the perception that the Giants, Steelers, Packers, and Patriots are the league’s truly great franchises.)

Indeed, no team that has appeared on Hard Knocks has ever made it to the Super Bowl that same year. The last two franchises that were featured on the series -- the Bengals in 2009 and the Jets in 2010 -- qualified for the postseason, with the Bengals losing to the Jets in the wild-card round in 2009 and the Jets making it to the AFC title game in 2010.

For more from Armando regarding the Dolphins’ decision to become the darlings of Hard Knocks in 2012, check out the segment from our weekday reality show.
