The Jaguars finally have addressed the arrest of receiver Justin Blackmon, the fifth overall pick in the 2012 draft, for aggravated DUI -- an offense that allegedly resulted in a chug-a-lug 0.24-percent Breathalyzer result.

The comment from the franchise contains even less meat than we had surmised. Though an acknowledgement that owner Shahid Khan is “shocked and perplexed” wasn’t expected (even if he is), at a minimum it was reasonable to believe that there would be some expression of disappointment or concern or, you know, anything.

“We are aware of the report and are gathering information. We don’t have any comment at this time,” a team spokesman tells the Florida Times-Union.

As the Jaguars try to turn the proverbial page via Khan’s purchase of the franchise, Blackmon’s incident connects him to, as the Times-Union points out, past problematic pass-catchers taken in round one: R. Jay Soward, Reggie Williams, and perennial Pro Bowler Matt Jones.

The difference between Blackmon and the others is that there’s still a chance Blackmon will demonstrate actual talent on the football field. The similarity is that, on Saturday night and into Sunday morning, he demonstrated the kind of judgment (or lack thereof) that doomed the team’s past first-round wideouts.
