Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo drew praise for suspending his quest to qualify for the U.S. Open, given that it can get in the way of, you know, his job. But Romo hasn’t suspended his golfing, and he’s still good enough to be picked to win the annual celebrity tournament held in July at Lake Tahoe.
According to the Associated Press, Romo has been installed as a 5-2 favorite to prevail at the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship, to be held on July 20-22. Eight-time winner Rick Rhoden is considered a slightly longer shot, at 4-1.
Romo has finished second each of the past two years.
Three-time champ Billy Joe Tolliver is next, 9-2. John Smoltz is 5-1, and two-time tourney winner Dan Quinn is at 7-1. Defending champ Jack Wagner and Jeremy Roenick are each 8-1. John Elway’s odds are 12-1.
Along with Kevin Nealon and Dennis Haysbert, Charles Barkley is the longest shot, at 500-1.
I’ll be right back, after borrowing $500 billion to bet against Barkley.
