Broncos kicker Matt Prater hasn’t signed his one-year, $2.6 million franchise tender, but he may sign a longer and more lucrative deal to remain in Denver soon.

The Denver Post reports that Prater and the Broncos have been working on a five-year contract extension that would average more than $3 million a year.

Enough progress has been made that the Broncos think the deal can get done in time for their mandatory minicamp, which takes place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week.

Although Tebowmania got all the attention last year, Prater’s late-game heroics were a big part of the Broncos’ mid-season run. Tebow is long gone, but the Broncos hope Prater will be their kicker for a long time.
