Dolphins owner Stephen Ross confirmed during a conference call with the team’s season-ticket holders Monday night that they had worked out wide receiver Chad Ochocinco.
It may be even further along than that.
Ross said “no decision had been made” on whether to sign the veteran receiver. But while he spoke, Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reported on Twitter they were talking contract and a “deal could get done in short order.”
“We don’t have a number one receiver, but we have a lot of dependable receivers,” Ross said of a group headlined by Brian Hartline, Davone Bess and Legedu Naanee.
Ross spoke in glowing terms about the young talent the Dolphins have, saying first-round pick quarterback Ryan Tannehill had “all the makings of becoming a franchise quarterback,” and called fourth-round running back Lamar Miller “an unbelievable steal.”
Much of the call was spent discussing fan-friendly topics such as fight songs and water parks, but adding a target for Tannehill would probably make them much happier.
UPDATE 9:04 p.m. ET: And there it is. Ochocinco is a Dolphin.
