Wilson not scared of Seahawks quarterback competition

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said recently that contracts wouldn’t play a part in his decision-making at the quarterback position.

That’s great news to the one who will make the least money this year.

Third-round pick Russell Wilson didn’t sound intimidated in the least, during an interview with KJR in Seattle, via SportsRadioInterviews.com.

“No, I’m not afraid at all of being a starter at all,” Wilson said. “I’ll be ready to go whenever my name is called. … It’s just like I always say, and I don’t know if you follow me on Twitter at all or anything like that, but I always tell people that are close to me that there’s no time to sleep. I’ve got no time to sleep. You’ve always got to be ready to go.”

Nothing against Wilson, but if he wins the competition, Seahawks fans are the ones with reason to fear.

Seattle just spent to bring in Matt Flynn ($19 million over three years, with $10 million guaranteed), and they have holdover Tarvaris Jackson at $4 million non-guaranteed.

If Wilson beats out Jackson (not inconceivable), the Seahawks can save a significant amount by releasing the former Vikings starter.

But if Wilson beats out Flynn, that’s a lot of money wasted.
