While other franchise-tagged players are seeing little movement, there seems to be progress toward a long-term deal between kicker Matt Prater and the Broncos.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports the two sides are “not far apart.”

They have until July 16 to work out a long-term deal, or he’ll play under the $2.654 million franchise tag.

Klis reported the latest Broncos proposal is worth more than $3 million per year. That’s good for the top eight at his position, but how much more than $3 million is going to determine whether it gets done.

If anyone deserves it, it might be Prater. After all, he has fans in high places.
