NFL says NFLRA charge has “no merit”

nflrefs_576

The latest legal battle involving the NFL has been joined.

The NFL Referees Association claims that the league committed a violation of the National Labor Relations Act by providing inaccurate and false information in letters sent to individual game officials after the NFL launched a lockout.

The NFL has responded. “There is no merit to these claims,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello via email to PFT. “It is common for employers during collective bargaining to provide factual information to employees that has already been communicated to the union. That is all that was done here.”

The letters that allegedly cross the line have yet to be produced. The fact that the NFLRA didn’t attach the letters to their press release or to the copy of the unfair labor practice charge makes us wonder whether the NFLRA is concerned about whether the letters support the contentions as clearly as the union claims.
