It didn’t take Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams very long to decide on whether to appeal Thursday’s decision dismissing his legal challenge to his six-game suspension.
Williams already has appealed, per a source with knowledge of the litigation.
Acknowledging the outcome on Thursday, attorney Peter Ginsberg said that Williams was considering an appeal. In the federal system, the process begins with a short and simple “notice of appeal,” which can be filed within 30 days after the judgment is entered.
In Williams’ case, there was no reason to delay, if he has any hope of stopping the suspension before the regular season begins. It also suggests that Williams may attempt to obtain a preliminary injunction from the appeals court blocking the suspension while the appeal, which may take several months to resolve, proceeds.
