T.O. says he’s being extorted

A former Baylor basketball player was arrested this week for trying to extort Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, the latest example of how extortion is a fairly common occurrence for professional athletes. And now there’s another pro athlete who says someone is trying to extort him: Terrell Owens.

Owens, the former (and, he hopes, future) NFL wide receiver, says that a woman who has been trying to sell what she claims are embarrassing pictures of him is engaged in extortion. Owens told Philly.com that the woman, who previously tried and failed to sell pictures of him to TMZ, is just trying to get money.

“It’s obvious that she has nothing because it’s illegal with what she’s trying to do or otherwise TMZ would have bought the photos,” Owens said. “This is a case of extortion, this is a waste of my time and you’re wasting your time because I have nothing to say.”

If this woman is really trying to get money out of Owens, she’d be wise to stop wasting her time: From all indications Owens doesn’t have much money to spare these days. But it appears that the woman is more interested in finding a media outlet willing to pay her for the pictures. Owens told Philly.com he doesn’t understand why anyone is even writing about it.

“I’m not sure what you or her are trying to accomplish,” Owens said. “At the end of the day God is good. It’s unfortunate people make attempts to ruin people’s lives.”

If this woman is really trying to extort Owens and ruin his life, he’d be wise to handle the situation exactly the way Griffin did, and go to the authorities.

  1. Rome said the pictures were of him “pleasuring himself on skype.” Something tells me this isn’t going to help his resume.

  2. No, T.O. You ruined your own life and career from your own actions and the way you dealt with people who put you on a pedestal. Consider this karma if it is true.

  3. If someone has photos of you doing something “embarrassing” don’t blame them for ruining your life. A photograph is just being caught in the act of what you chose to do.

  4. He did it, hell im no Superstar, but i guarantee there are women out there with pics of my wang.. Hope he was smart and left his big ass head out of the pics

  5. If someone ever decides to make a motion picture on the life of T.O., one would have to consider Kevin Costner for the leading role. No?

  6. Dude was just realesed by the Allen Wranglers… why does he still keep popping up on “PRO (<–key word) Football Talk?

  7. Every time I start to feel bad for TO he goes out and does something really stupid that reminds me why he is in such dire straights. I suggest you give the TMZ article a quick read if you want a good laugh. This guy is such a moron.

  8. I hope this isn’t another way of him making himself feel importanted or needed. Besides who really would pay for pictures of him? It’s sad to see how far some people will go to stay “important” in their own minds. Mr. Owens let your life back together, move on to the next stage in your life, & be safe.

  9. greasybeerfart says,

Haha damn,T.O. I almost feel bad for ya in some ways but just let it go.

I think those are the pictures she claims to have of TO” letting it go” via Skype

  10. What derails any chance of sympathy for me is what a dead-beat father he is and how he has had multiple chances to get his life on track and decided to ignore his financial/family/personal issues and woke up 40 yrs old, broke and looking for patchwork jobs/appearances to get checks.

Rookie Symposium they should have a PPT on TO’s life.

  11. In this era of internet, reality TV, and obsession over celebrities do any of you think this anything other than a publicity stunt for T.O. to try and garner some sort of income?

The man is hurting for me. He is not being extorted. He is applying the “all publicity is good publicity” rule.

His handlers got wind of RGIII’s case and thought why not do the same.

And what do you know, T.O. is right back in the headlines creating page hits and comments.

  12. “waussau says:

Are the pictures of him playing football for a pro team?”

No. They are pictures of him in his Wranglers uniform.

  13. Doesn’t the idiot woman know you can’t get blood from a turnip? There’s nothing there.

    Move along, move along.

  14. Selling the pictures to TMZ does not constitute extortion. Somebody learned a new word reading(?) a story about about RGIII and is using it incorrectly. If she was trying to get T.O. to pay her money, THAT would be extortion. Nowhere in what he said, and least in what is included in this post, does it say that she has asked HIM for money. If the pictures aren’t of him, she’s committing fraud. If they are, she’s not doing anything illegal at all.

  15. He just can’t help but go out of his way to say “HEY EVERYBODY LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT WHAT I CAN DO!!”

    Just shut up already T.O.!

  16. “This is a case of extortion, this is a waste of my time and you’re wasting your time because I have nothing to say.”

I like that he goes to the media, and tries to make a big deal about it…

And T.O. with nothing to say? That’ll be the day.

  17. “Owens told Philly.com he doesn’t understand why anyone is even writing about it.”

Um, maybe because you’re the one who told Philly.com about it in the first place?

Looks like the woman isn’t the only one trying to “find a media outlet”. Seems very suspicious that TO comes up with this days after it was reported RG3 was being extorted. Any other record of the alleged TO extortion other than the words coming out of his own mouth?

  18. The embarrassing pictures she has supposedly shows Terrel “scoring ” for the first time in a few years.

  19. Please go away Mr. Owens, I used to have much love for you, but you have erased any sympathy I once had for you. I still have you’re Jersey and will always remember your spectacular plays on the football field, but please just stop already. Move on, get another job, coach some kids or something man, do something good with the rest of your life. Please

  20. It’s more likely that T.O. is extorting the media into giving him free press by making false extortion claims. Why won’t this narcissistic diva just fade into oblivion already…

  21. Goodell should have asked T.O. if he could come speak at the rookie symposium. I think his portrait of life would set a few of these kids on the right path. If T.O. can’t set them straight, then Pacman Jones should.

  22. Forgetting that we are talking about this particular individual, I was thinking how utterly terrifying it must be to arrive at forty years of age and have the travails in life he has. In addition, the most frightening thoughts tormenting him, more than likely center on the fact that he truly has NO job skills or training for anything post-football. What in heavens name can he do to provide even for his basic needs?! While I firmly believe that he placed himself in this position, this is truly a scary story to ponder for anyone.

  23. Let T.O finish his career in peace an if he wants to play, put him on the field an try him out an if he can play LET HIM, his team mates can handle him in the locker room if he is a problem to them

  24. I’ll never forget watching him transform from a quiet up and coming WR to the big mouthed idiot he is today.

It was right after he made that big catch against the Packers, called “The Catch 2.”

I haven’t like him since then but I’m afraid this guy’s might just check out soon, and I DON’T want to see that.

  25. I concur with Foul 83, Costner would play a great TO, thinking Danny Devito could play Drew Rosenhaus and Gary Coleman as Andy Reid
