On Easter Sunday in 2010, the Eagles surprised the NFL by trading quarterback Donovan McNabb. On Independence Day 2012, the Eagles have unveiled another surprise.
Owner Jeffrey Lurie announced that he and his wife, Christina, are divorcing after 20 years of marriage.
According to Susan Snyder and Bob Warner of the Philadelphia Inquirer, a letter to employees emphasizes that the divorce will have no impact on the team or the organization. The letter states that the couple “would remain close friends” and will “continue to work together as partners.”
“This was not a decision made easily or without deep consideration for each other, our children and our extended families,” the Luries said. “But it is one we have reached mutually and with the greatest respect for each other and each of our roles in our work here at the Eagles.”
Jeffrey Lurie previously was a filmmaker. He met Christina in the late ‘80s, when she was an associate producer on one of Lurie’s movies.
The couple purchased the Eagles in 1994.
