Dolphins make sense as a landing spot for WR Josh Gordon

The NFL will hold its Supplemental Draft Thursday, and the most intriguing name of the lot is former Baylor wide receiver Josh Gordon.

And while it remains to be seen if anybody wants to give up a 2013 draft pick for him, the Dolphins could be interested, according to Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post.

Miami has a lot of receivers, but most of them are best-suited as second or thirds. After trading Brandon Marshall this offseason, the additions of note were Chad Ochocinco, journeyman Legedu Naanee and sixth-round pick B.J. Cunningham.

While Gordon’s off-field issues (offseason marijuana arrest which led to a suspension) are the reason he’s available this week, his talent might make him attractive to a receiver-needy team like the Dolphins.

At 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, with good downfield speed (we’ll find out how good at his pro day workout Tuesday), some think he carries as high as a third-round grade.

For all the names on the roster, the Dolphins don’t have many options with Gordon’s kind of size. And for an offense that figures to be in flux this year anyway, rolling the dice on a potential vertical threat might not be the worst gamble.
