Nate Collins, a defensive tackle signed by the Bears two months ago, won’t be on the field in Week One.

The NFL has announced that Collins was suspended without pay for the first game of the season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. The suspension is without pay, and Collins will also be fined an additional game check.

The league has not said what Collins’s violation was.

An undrafted free agent who at first signed with the Giants in 2010, Collins was cut by the Giants but has played 13 games in two seasons with the Jaguars.
