Lions cornerback Aaron Berry’s DUI charge has gotten resolved a lot more quickly than Corey Williams’ DUI charge.
According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Berry has entered a diversion program for first-time offenders. As part of the program, Berry will perform 20 to 40 hours of community service over a six months. He’ll also submit to an alcohol evaluation, and he’ll pay a fine and court costs.
Berry was charged with DUI, two counts of accidents involving unattended vehicles, and two counts of failure to stop and give information.
“He’s talking responsibility,” lawyer Corky Goldstein told Birkett. “His insurance is taking care of any damage to his car and damage to the two unattended cars, so that’ll be taken care of. And he’ll get into that ARD program probably sometime in January because they’re so backed up and he’ll be in that for six months.”
Berry will now be subject to discipline by the league. Under the substance-abuse policy, first-time DUI offenders will be fined two game checks, absent “aggravating circumstances.”
