Believe it or not, there are some things Rex Ryan keeps to himself.

Okay, there’s only one thing he keeps to himself. That would be the plans for Tim Tebow’s exact role on the Jets this season. Discussion of his usage has been a constant talking point this offseason with offensive duties and special teams duties getting bandied about almost every day. Sal Paolantonio of ESPN asked the Jets coach what Tebow will be doing against the Bills in Week One of the regular season and the normally verbose coach decided to zip his lip.

“It’s whatever you want it to be. That’s the beauty of it,” Ryan said. “We brought this young man in, I know how difficult it is to have to prepare for the Wildcat, for those type of things. There’s no question, I know how difficult it is. And the fact that we can trot out Tim to run 25 Wildcat snaps, or zero, or 50, or one, or whatever it is, is gonna make you have to prepare for him. So why would I ever give that up? And I’m not going to. Everybody will find out what his role is against Buffalo that particular day.”

Given all of the things that the Jets have reportedly put on Tebow’s plate, the Bills and the other teams on the Jets schedule might have to prepare for him on every single play of the game. Of course, they might not be as daunted by that task as Ryan seems to believe they’ll be but that information, like Tebow’s precise role, will not be revealed for a while yet.
