Tim Tebow isn’t the only member of the Jets who’ll be adding titles to his business card this year.
Coach Rex Ryan recently acknowledged that Cromartie “could” play offense. The reality is that he “will” play offense.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, cornerback Antonio Cromartie will be playing receiver in multiple offensive packages.
The goal will be to turn him loose, stretching the field and keeping defenses intent on stuffing the “ground and pound” offense honest. It could also open up the underneath routes for receiver Santonio Holmes and tight end Dustin Keller. (Of course, if Cromartie catches too many passes, Santonio Holmes may need an explanation.)
Cromartie also will be a situational kickoff return specialist. In 2011, he returned 17 of them, the most of his career.
