Fights break out at Eagles practice

Tempers flared during the Sunday practice at Eagles camp.

According to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News, a nasty fight broke out when linebacker Ryan Rau stood over guard Danny Watkins and punched the back of Watkins’ head, which led the entire offense to jump in to take Watkins’ side, creating a giant pile. Rau didn’t sound particularly remorseful afterward.

“I don’t care who it is; I’m not going to let anybody push me around,” Rau said.

Another fight started with defensive tackle Derek Landri and offensive tackle Demetress Bell, then spread to some of their teammates. Landri said afterward that the skirmish was a good sign of good competition.

“No question, emotions are high,” Landri said. “Everybody wants to be at their best. Mediocrity is not acceptable. Everybody is going as hard as they can. Sometimes you get the better of a guy, sometimes he gets the better of you, and things kind of escalate from there. At the same time, we know where it all ends. It’s done and we move on to the next day.”

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick jumped in to try to break things up when the linemen were fighting, but he admitted after practice that it would probably be wise for him not to get in the middle of a couple of 300-pounders going at it. Training camp fights are commonplace, but quarterbacks are wise to leave the fights to the big guys.

  2. Thats the kind of team chemistry thats going to take them to the Superbowl!!

    LOL

  3. In the words of bob ueker: My God! Good news fans, the Eagles are showing signs of life for the first time in weeks. As a matter of fact they appear to be beating the crap out of each other.

  4. Vick should just stay away from the word “fight” in general. Will always remind me of the terrible things he did just when the memory is beginning to fade a bit.

  5. “I don’t care who it is; I’m not going to let anybody push me around,” Rau said.

Uhhh, as a linebacker he does realize that’s the job of every single O-linesman he’s going to go against for the remainder of his career, yes?

  6. Who said the Eagles are a dynasty ? Vick said that he felt this team could DEVELOP into a dynasty . I used to think you guy’s were just haters , but now I realize you’re just clowns who are obsessed with everything Eagles … JUMP OFF !! Go Eagles !!!

  7. After the fight, several eagles players were seen beating up a guy who looked like Santa

  8. Vick had Watkins choked out afterwards for losing the fight against a smaller linebacker.

  9. So let me get this straight. The eagles get into a fight and it’s ok because competition is good. Jim Shwartz lays into a rookie and he is a hot head losing control of the team? I’m not even sure why I read comments anymore. I remember when T.Young punched Delmas in the back of the head and it was the end of the lions as we knew it.

  10. Geez, Demetress Bell is there for a couple of weeks and he is already fighting? He was quiet and usually kept to himself at last years training camp at St. John Fisher, the Eagles are rubbing off on him.

  11. Did Watkins have his helmet on when he got punched in the head, damn good way for a numbnuts to get his hand broken but nobody ever accused him of being very smart.maybe the Eagles players can put each other on the disabled list, that way the Cowboys have a little better chance to move off the bottom in the East, about the only chance they have.going to be a long season for Jerrys boys.

And in another shocking development … ham, cheese and bread is a sandwich.

Really, you’ve got men weighing up to 300 lbs. in a contact sport who are literally battling for their jobs and the security of their families and you feel the need to report that a fight broke out? I’d be more shocked if one didn’t.

  13. Training camp fights aren’t news. Neither is a coach giving a player an earful.

If Buddy Ryan was still coaching, this whole site would be dedicated to training camp scraps!

  14. If buddy ryan was still coaching we’d tear off any players head like the bounty bowl. Love the way it used to be then Cuz there wouldn’t be any players that had a pay me millions to play my favorite sport and not have to take a hit attitude theyd welcome contact. I think the league should have players sign waivers saying they can’t sue the nfl for problems down the line. Hate the whole spread offense play the game how it should be played, with contact. None of this he hit me near my head shyt. Wat other job gets paid at minimum a few hundred k the same way Nfl players do? I love the way old skool defensive coordinators coached, take his f ing head off coaching

  15. I absolutely love the Eagles haters and especially the Vick in lovers who so highly remind us of how his career off the field was a bad choice… My, my, my you all are relentless and so dont know the truth but please keep it going, it is the funniest stuff. these comments today had me on the floor… Great intensity by the Eagles in practice…. see how easy that last statement was
