Eagles guard Evan Mathis is one of the many Eagles suffering from injuries at present and he missed practices at the end of this week as a result.

Coach Andy Reid said that Mathis has an inner ear infection and Geoff Mosher of the Delaware Courier-Post reports, via a team source, that Mathis is suffering from vertigo as a result. Per the report, Mathis has the dizziness and balance issues that are the primary symptoms of the condition.

The good news for the Eagles is that Mathis is reportedly on the tail end of the ear infection. Once that goes away, the vertigo should go away with it and allow Mathis to get back on the field. Dallas Reynolds will fill in at left guard until Mathis is able to get back on the field.

Mathis signed a five-year, $25 million contract with the team during the offseason after a very strong debut season with the Eagles. With Jason Peters already gone for the season, the Eagles can ill afford to lose Mathis from the line for any extended period of time. The current issue shouldn’t cause such an absence, which means the Eagles can concentrate on getting the rest of the roster healthy while Mathis’ infection runs its course.
