Travis Henry can, but probably won’t, play in the NFL again

The good news for Travis Henry is that the NFL has given the go-ahead for his planned return to action. The bad news for Henry is that if he wants to return to the NFL, he still needs to get one of the 32 teams to offer him a contract.

Henry, who has been suspended since 2008 and spent three years in prison for cocaine trafficking, was reinstated by the NFL, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. He’s now an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team.

But while Henry has said he wants to play again, it seems unlikely that any team would want to take a shot at him. Henry will turn 34 in October, and there aren’t many running backs in their mid-30s who have been out of action for four years who are able to come back and play at a high level again.

So Henry, who looked like one of the most promising young running backs in the league when he ran for a total of 2,794 yards in 2002-03 with the Bills, is probably done playing football.
