One of the reasons Aaron Ross signed as a free agent in Jacksonville is that the Jaguars sold him on their belief that a football team is a family, and that they’d treat Ross like family -- which included giving him time off from training camp to watch his wife in the Olympics.

Now Ross is back to Jacksonville, having seen Sanya Richards-Ross win gold, and he’s praising his team for rallying behind his wife. At the Jaguars’ open practice on Sunday, they showed his wife’s 400-meter race to the players and the fans, and Ross said he and his wife were touched by that.

That’s unbelievable. That really shows what kind of atmosphere this is,” Ross told the Florida Times-Union.

There’s no doubt in Ross’s mind that missing a couple of days of practice was worth it.

“There’s no better feeling than to see your loved one out there conquering her dreams, something she has been wanting from 7 years old when she first started running to get an individual gold,” Ross said. “To see her cross that line and to get on the podium and get that medal around her neck, I’m getting chills now just thinking about it.”

It was a great moment for Ross. And wise for the Jaguars to allow him to be there for it.
