The Jets’ safety dance, which had three guys listed as starters on the initial depth chart, could get a lot clearer if one of them has an injury that keeps him off the field.

Eric Smith, who could lose his starting job to newcomers LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell, suffered a left knee and left hip injury on Friday night against the Bengals.

X-rays were negative, but Smith said after the game he’s still awaiting MRI results.

I don’t think it’s anything too serious,” Smith said, via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

Smith injured the leg while tackling receiver Brandon Tate. Smith said that he could feel a “sharp pain” in his knee after the game.
