The Wayne Hunter experiment apparently has ended. So now what?

With Stephon Heyer and Jeff Otah long gone and with the internal cupboard otherwise bare, the Jets at some point in the not too distant past have kicked tires on veteran left tackle Marcus McNeill.

Yes, the same Marcus McNeill who retired two weeks ago, after only six NFL seasons.

Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the workout occurred recently, and that nothing is imminent. It’s unclear exactly when the workout occurred. Based on a follow-up Twitter entry from Cimini, it’s possible that the workout happened before McNeill decided to call it quits.

Regardless, the Jets have been searching for more help at right tackle. The search undoubtedly will continue.

Maybe they should just ask Tim Tebow to put on another 30 pounds and give him the job.

UPDATE 3:12 p.m. ET: McNeill’s agent, Alvin Keels, tells PFT that the workout came before the retirement announcement.
