It’s been an ugly preseason for the Jets offense, but they’ll have their best wide receiver back in the lineup for their next attempt at scoring a touchdown.

Coach Rex Ryan said Friday that wide receiver Santonio Holmes would be in the lineup when the Jets meet the Panthers on Saturday night. There was some concern earlier in the preseason that Holmes wouldn’t be able to play until the regular season, but he was able to practice this week and indicated Thursday that he thought he would be able to play. Seth Walder of the New York Daily News reports Ryan said that he expected Holmes to play 10-12 snaps in his first action of the preseason.

Holmes hurt his ribs during a training camp scrimmage and later complained of left hamstring and back issues as a result of the initial injury. His absence, along with that of the also returning Jeremy Kerley, has left the Jets very short at receiver through the first two games.

So the Jets will be better stocked on Sunday. We’ll have to wait and see if that means anything different for their productivity.
