Cornerback Prince Amukamara hasn’t been ruled out of the Giants’ season opener as a result of his high ankle sprain, but his chances of being in the lineup don’t sound so good.

Amukamara said Thursday that he’s feeling better and that he’s no longer wearing a protective boot on his right foot. He also said that he hasn’t been cleared to practice or run yet, which is problematic since the Giants play the Cowboys on Wednesday. Amukamara conceded that it he’s likely to miss the first game and then take the extra time to get ready to play in Week Two.

“I am thinking Week Two is more promising but I want Week One to be promising also,” Amukamara said, via Ohm Youngmisuk. “They haven’t told me yes, they haven’t told me no.”

Michael Coe started on Wednesday night for the Giants and played fairly well after Amukamara got hurt against the Bears. The Giants are also hoping to get third-round pick Jayron Hosley back from turf toe in time to play in the opening game whether or not Amukamara finds a quicker route back to the field.
